Both Iowa teams are changing coaches. Zalesky didn't renew his contract. I guess thats what happens when your do the team does worse than they have done in 39 years.

Didn't we know this a year ago. Maybe you should try the college forum.

I don't recall reading anything about it. I'd heard that it was intended for him to eventually become the head coach, but I had no idea it would be so soon.

Zalesky was fired, mainly because of recruiting losses and the fact that they went 11-7 in duals this year and finished sixth in the Big Ten tournament. In all likelihood, either Tom Brands will come back from Virginia Tech or there's a hot rumor that Gable might come back for two or three years.
As for Iowa State, call it whatever you want to. This announcement came two hours after Zalesky's firing was announced. ISU moved quickly to have Douglas retire so they could lock in Sanderson as head coach before Iowa could get him. As we know from history, back in the 1970s, ISU didn't move quickly enough to lock Gable in as an assistant and Iowa grabbed him the rest is history.

It seems like Iowa was on the phone with Sanderson as soon as Zalesky was let go. I wonder how Douglas feels about all this.

From the way Coach Douglas talked at the Salina clinic, it sounded like he was ready to step aside and let someone else run the show. His heart was still very much in it, but his body had been beat up a bit and he admitted that the seasons were getting long. I was in Arizona when he was at ASU, and we talked a bit about some of the kids he had there. Coach Douglas is a good man, and he will be missed, but I have a feeling that he will enjoy retirement IF it was his idea. No one likes to be pushed out if that was the case, but Cael was his choice, I believe.

lookwhosback,
Do you have your resume ready for the Asst. Job at either school?
Are you going to Folkstyle Nationals next week?
If so look me up.

Nedley:
I'm going to let them both get into a bidding war and see how it comes out. Always looked best in black and gold, but red and gold was very good to me for a time.
I'll try and come up next week!
