A.J. Heckle came to my room why we were in Pittsburgh, PA for high school nationals to let us know about the accident and I've kept him in my thoughts and prayers since. I keep waiting to hear positive news.
There was a thread not too far down on the message board that has been written about Pete Eck, and one member who i assume knows more about this situation than most of us, wrote that the doctor said he is getting better. Regardless, I do know that everyone in the wrestling community is wishing Pete a quick recovery and that he will be able to enjoy the rest of his life as a healthy human being. He is in our prayers and thoughts for sure.

We heard today that the surgeon thought Pete was "out of the woods". Don't know what he saw that made him say that, but it sounded good. Of course it is easier for us to feel good about it. It is tougher for a parent to see their kid laying there in that condition, and to believe anyone that says he is out of the woods. Positive thinking never hurt anything though!!!!

One of his teammates' mom told me last night that he would be released from the hospital soon. Hey, Eck you got a new report or do I have to come over there and knock your hat off?

I heard a rumor that he had lost some feeling in certain limbs of his body? Will he be able to walk and live a normal life? I am not concerned about wrestling. There are some things that are more important. I wish him will in the future.

We are all hoping for good news. As wrestlers, I know that we all feel a closer sense of family than any other sport. We compete hard against each other, but when our backs are against the wall, we will all stand together. Good luck to Pete and the Eck family. Our sincere best wishes are with you. Pete was released from the rehab hospital Wednesday afternoon. He is doing much better. Pete is continuing outpatient rehab and the prognosis is good, Pete should make a full recovery. He has regained all feeling in his legs. His first words when he was able to speak were “when can I wrestle again.” That tells you what kind of person Pete is.

I was talking to one of his teammates and he told me that only 1 in 10 people that get into that kind of a situation live, and they said it was because he was in so great of condition. Goes to show you how much wrestling conditioning pays off. haha

Our family would like to thank all of you for your thoughts and support at this time. Pete is recovering very well. According to the trauma doctor we last spoke with Peter only had between a 3% to 5% chance of surviving the injury he had. Besides the most critical injury, severing his aorta, Peter has had some minor head trauma and a broken left hand. The doctors do expect Pete to be on the mat in the fall in the same physical condition as before the car accident. It is true that he lost feeling to his toes and hamstrings as a result to head injuries, however the feeling has nearly completely returned. The first time anyone sees Pete it is hard to imagine that he doing much better, but his strength and accomplishments have been amazing considering what his body has been through. His recovery will be long; it will take him awhile to gain back his strength and return to his previous physical condition, but he has and will continue to dramatically improve in the coming weeks. It is difficult to see Petey with a walker if the last time you saw him was during the wrestling season, but having seen him immediately after the accident until now his improvements have been significant. Pete is supposed to be very careful for the next four weeks as a result of the concussion, so as a precaution the doctors are forcing him to continue using his walker because his balance was affected by the concussion. Although, instead of using it for balance he is now carrying it where ever he goes. Pete is in very good spirits and is up to visitors. He will continue to see a physical therapist until he is able to start training on his own and is looking forward to seeing all of you again during the wrestling season. We truly appreciate all of for your thoughts and prayers during the last three weeks!

Did anyone ever say how the accident happened?

I would like to thank all of you for all your prayers and all of your support. Some of you probly don't know what happened but a dump truck ran a stop sign on a busy street right outside of wichita. Hopefully if my legs make a full recovery then i will be able to start to wrestle by December.

Pete, can't wait to see you on the mat again.fearless is right you are an awsome wrestler with superior wrestling skills, but being able to watch you in the CK practice room the last several years I see where this comes from.I know of no one who works harder, has a better attitude, never backs down from anybody, and your tuffness was unmatched in a room full of tuff guys.If anyone can overcome this tragady(setback)in your case I know it's you.You have been a insperation to younger and older kids (parents also) in that room for several years.Guys like you make me proud to be involved with wrestling, what a class act.Best of luck and our prayers will continue. It's been a pleasure to get to know you and your family and a joy to watch you wrestle(I like tuff guys).Best wishes Jon Elliott
