Thursday at a High School Dual I heard that Baker University might be getting wrestling in the near future. Has anyone heard about this, is it fact or fiction.

It is true that Baker is at least examining the possibility of adding college wrestling (NAIA level) in the near future.

That is awesome! Good luck to Baker on trying to get wrestling. I would love to see wrestling in KS grow and grow.

I thought it was brought up a while ago on Baker getting college wrestling. By my understanding that's why they hosted a junior college wrestling match on its campus, to see how it would go over. From the sounds of it turn out and praise for the event were pretty well...now we all just have to call, and write Baker to encourage them to pursue wrestling even more.

The positive part of it is from what it hear it is coach Harris's dad that is the AD at Baker University, and Coach Harris has a good shot at getting the job if he wants it.

It is true that there have been efforts for many years to get Baker to start a wrestling program, I have been mostly behind that along with many other wrestling enthusiasts in the area. And it is also true that my Dad is the Athletic Director and has a wrestling background, he coached high school wrestling in Missouri for 17 years prior to coming to Baker, was a high school wrestler himself, and even started a couple high school programs in Missouri in the 1970's. He has been supportive and well receptive to the efforts. I am not very optimistic right now about the prospects, at least not in the near future, but will keep making attempts.
I have never expressed interest in the coaching job if a program were started, and am still doubtful I would even apply. And I am sure there would be plenty of applicants with much more credentials on their resumes anyway.
I am waiting for more information on the issue soon and will see where to go from there and will be sure to keep all posted.
I know the KWCA is discussing efforts to push for more collegiate programs at other universities around the state.
