It's nice and dandy that they recognize the likes of Wayne Simien and the Washburn Ladies National Basketball Championship team, but did Labette get the fanfair of going before the State House and being honored?
Maybe we should stop inviting dignitaries to our State competitions if they aren't going to invite everyone of the same caliber to the State House, not just the National Champions/All Americans in the "popular" sports.

Yes, the Cardinal Wrestling Team was honored at the statehouse. It was a week or two after the championship I think.

During the JUCO national finals, I called the Kansas City Star and left a message for the sports editor about the impending national champs. II informed him that Labette was only 120 miles from KC and several wrestlers from the KC area were on the team. I also told him about the Earl Jones story, and what a remarkable human interest story he had, 2 time national champ, and all on one leg. What was their response?? nothing, not even a call back. I also informed him I would do a bunch of leg work, ie: arranging interviews and collecting phone #s .
That is the KC star for ya. Minimal coverage for a sport that has more participants than any other in Kansas. Ill keep tryin.

That's pathetic, No one will give us the exposure we need to get the sport on a national scale to save it. This state needs help in the media department, not on our feet

I would like to see Chris Orr at Kansas Preps Weekly eventually come out with a publication like the Sunflower College Weekly or something that would cover college sports in the state like the Preps.
