That 171 finals was action packed with 3a #1 ranked Derek Oswald of ACCHS vs. #1 ranked 6a Casey Curran of BV North. Curran won it to the score of 10-9 or 9-8.

I agree Sawyz. That was a fun one to watch. Some good scrambles. Reminded me of two old tomcats rolling around in a ball! Grandpa Oswald was sitting a few rows in front of me. I didn't hear him utter a single word the whole match. He just calmly watched it. Interesting. (I know it was him from the shirt he was wearing - it stated something to the effect of ACCHS GRANDPA and then had Derek's name and a few others listed as 'grandsons'.)
One other match i enjoyed was Livingood's - letting his opponent up with about 1 minute left and then securring the TD for the one point win. That was exciting.

It sounds like Mr. Oswald gave Casey Curran quite a battle.
I saw some very good football players this high school season during the Aquinas football season. Casey Curran was the best all around player that I saw. He is an incredible football player. He is just as good on offense and defense. I think he has the drive and heart to be a D-I football player.

At the Eudora tournament Oswald was 4th, so he had 2 losses there: 171 Nill (Aq) 6-4 Gettler (FS) Caton (Lans) 7-6 Oswald (AC)
5th at Basehor
171 lbs: 1st-Will Irvine (CHAP) def. T.J. Lorson (SEA), 7-3 3rd-R.J. Nill (STA) def. Dakotah Gettler (FS), 4-1 5th-Derek Oswald (EFF) def. Chris Ewing (SFT), inj. def.
and runner up at the Paola tournament: 171: 1. Dakotah Gettler - FS pinned Derek Oswald - ACCHS
