Check the 6U, most of the kids at state in this weight will be 6 and under. Last year we wrestled this weight and I think there were four 8U and twelve 6U at state.

There will be some very tough kids at 8u 46,49 that will drop down to 43 for state.

Dropping down to 43? I hope not! Afterall, how much can an 8/U 46 or 49 afford to lose?
Are you making a POSITIVE difference in the life of kids?

Boo dryden will probably be 43. You can look at the Salina results for 6u43. Wenzel, Becker, Duncan, Henry, plus Deshazer won the 43 bracket for Tulsa.

Talking to alot of the parents some of these kids that are wrestling 46 are only weighing 43.5 - 44.5, I agree any parent and I stress parent pulling a kid down from 49 should have their head examined that would be 12% of the kids weight, not many high school kids do that.

Sorry that was my mistake. I did look at the state results. He has been in 40 for 3 years. Boo participated in the 40 lb. weight classification the past three years as this is the lowest weight classification available in the Eight and Under division. The first year at Kids State Boo weighed 33-34 lbs., the second year weighed 36-37 lbs., and last year Boo weighed 39-40 lbs.!

Thanks for clearing that up. We are still learning. So i'm assuming the best thing to do is wrestle kids up in tournaments then drop them down to their weight in state? I've heard of other parents doing that also, what are the advantages and disadvanges of this? Is this something maybe I should consider for the remander of the season?

Maybe Park City's results are wrong from last year? They say Dryden at 8 under 46 and that is only one week before subs! Surely this is wrong or he wrestled up 6 lbs as a 6 year old (at park city!?)

Not that anyone needs an explanation but maybe I can help this thread die. Boo wrestled 43 most of the year, from what I understand he was wrestling up a weight. He went to 46 at Park City for a certain match up, wrestling up two weight divisions. I would say wrestling up two weight divisions and getting 2nd is impressive. He then probably pulled about a pound to get to 40 for the final three weeks. If I were a betting man he is probably under weight at 46 since he has made 43 twice.
