The ref either didn't want to be there or didn't care. Maybe both. Made for a frustrating day.

It's not paranoia if they're really out to get you!

Everyone knows who he is. He worked Salina last year and was horrible. I notified the head official prior to the start of the Manhattan tournament that he was going to be bad. I think he is a "Good" guy but he just doesn't do a good job of officiating. That mat was 20 matches behind all of the others. That is usually a good way to measure an official. Someone needs to make sure he isn't working subs, dist, or state.

He was definitely not doing a good job, but don't let this one guy ruin what was a great tournament overall.
I liked watching the young ref I believe he was on mat 4. It was the mat on the south end if my directions are correct. He was new and worked his way through some tough matches. He did a great job and I'm sure will get better as the year goes on.
Thank you Manhattan Club for another good tournament!

I was hoping it wasn't just me.He seemed like a very nice man, but he was very slow & and didn't take control of his mat.I hope we don't see him again.

I'm going to use this topic as an excuse to encourage coaches and club directors to observe the officials as they work these invitational tournaments, and to inform the district directors of those who deserve special attention (both positive and negative). The district directors are the individuals responsible for the selection of officials at the important tournaments at the end of the season, and would value this input.

As a former district director (long ago, in a district far, far away), I can vouch that getting recommendations on officials is a very difficult task. Everyone is fired up after a bad call goes against them, but many of those same people were silent when asked for suggestions on who to hire.

When you see an official that you think deserves special attention, pro or con, take note of the official number on his/her sleeve, and let the district directors know what you think. This is how we make sure we get the best officials on the mat at the end of the season.

For a list of the district directors, go to the Kansas Wrestling website and click on "Directors."
