I was at the Winfield Dist. tourny last Sat. and saw something that was a real shame happen before my eyes. A young girl was wrestling in a match that would have given her at least fourth place and a trip to the kids state tourny this weekend. Mind you, this was also her first year to wrestle. She did not wrestle with our club but for WWC. Anyway, she went into overtime this this young man. After the first overtime period the score was still tied, so they went into the first 30 second period where she gave up a penalty point for locked hands. Giving credit to the official, he started to restart the match in referee's position when the WWC coach said the match was over. This was the wrong call. I understand that the overtime rules have changed this year and I guess I have a problem with this particular coach not recognizing the changes. "COACH", you cost your wrestler a trip to state. You should feel like crap. One other thing, I know that official knew the rules. I'm not quite sure why he didn't continue the match regardless of the coach saying it was over. You have control over that match. I hope everyone takes note of this because this is too critical of a tournament for these kids to cost anyone a state place. Please make sure you know all the rules.

I'd say you have to put this one on the ref if that's the way it went down....He is getting paid to know the rules.

Sportsnut_27, you are the only one that should feel like crap for spouting off full of misinformation. I was coaching the WWC wrestler. The girl wrestled for Goddard. It was a great match. They went thru all 3 periods of the first overtime and it was then Goddards choice in the 4th period overtime to go up, down or on their feet. They chose to try to ride it out. Her lack of knowledge hurt her as she simply locked hands and tried to hold on. The offical did a tremendous job of officiating a free forall. Goddards coaches did a great job as well. Had she not locked her hands I feel she would have won. I was disappointed to win by a penalty after both wrestlers had fought so hard.

Lindon-

Rule 6-7-1.

The overtime rules state that in the 4th OT that there is no neutral choice, only TOP BOTTOM or DEFER (Thus called the ride-out OT) in the ultimate tiebreaker. The choice goes to the first person who recorded a point(s). If no points had been scored the the referee shall flip the disk as done after the first 1 minutes SV period. The offensive wrestler will be declared the winner if no point(s) are scored.

So they did not chose to ride-out it was the rules.

Alex,
The Goddard wrestler scored first in the regular match. It was their choice and they choose top(or to ride it out)you can obviously score in other ways (she could have turned us for back points). If they chose bottom they would have to escape or reverse. I did however misspeak when I indicated neutral as a choice in a 4th period of OT. My blood pressure was a still a little high from the original post of this thread. Thanks for the clarification.

Lindon Bontz is a great coach as are all of the Goddard coaches I am familiar with and wish the poster had known the facts prior to insulting a club and the coaching staff with misinformation.

Generally, when leaving a negative post, one can determine the character of an individual if the individual posts their name or hides behind a pseudonym.

At least in this case the poster's pseudonym tries to acknowledge that the poster undersands they have issues, sportsNUT_27. Remember the first step to fixing a problem is admitting you have one \:\)

One of the problems with the new forum format, is in a situation like this, one can't delete a thread once a post has been made after the original post. Otherwise this thread would have been deleted.

to lindon and all of the wwc wrestling family- i wish to give you all my deepest apoligies for my coments. if i knew you, i would have done this in person. to the goddard coaches, i need to apoligize to you too. when i first wrote this thread, i must of been talking about one of you. now i have a little truth to tell. i didn't actually see this entire match with "my own eyes". i only saw the last part of it. i don't know the gentleman's name that told me what had happened but i, as lindon said, did not know the facts of the match. i took for granted that what i was told was true and not wanting to put anyone else out there, i did the one thing that i sometimes do best. i made a complete idiot of myself. i truly am sorry that i insulted ANY ONE and i am embarresed that i spouted off on the whim of words and not facts. this really made me look dumber than i really am. i snuck my nose in where it didn't belong. lindon, my blood pressure would have been up too if the shoe were on the other foot. again, i'm sorry. richard, the comment you put on there about one's character is so true. i don't ever want to be known as someone that hides behind a pseudomyn. i hope you all can forgive me. I would like to jump in and say that I did watch this match and several other parents around me and myself, when the match was tied 3 to 3, goddard was down and came up out from underneath the wwc kid and the ref indicated a 2 point reversal which was never awarded.....there was never any indication to scratch the points...no wave of the hand or so forth....this would have made the score 5 to 3 at the end of the 3rd period...I think that everyone was so caught up in the match so this was over looked...but it is done and over now and my understanding is that if nothing is said before the start of the next period not much can be done......This match should have been all goddard.....

sportsnut_27, apology accepted. Per Mike Furches comment, I agree this thread should just be deleted as it has absolutly no value. It just keeps going on as in 1968's comments. Beleive me it is not likely that coaches on either side are going to miss 2 points that would win the match. Time ran out and the points where not awarded. I'm not sure what you mean by "This match should have been all goddard" Either it was or it wasn't.

I think the outcome of this thread could be educational and would hate for us to get into a thread/post, editing/deletion, frenzy. Sometimes these type of threads serve a greater purpose.

I do not know what happened during this match, and who is right or wrong does not really matter now. But, no one was really hurt by this and some good information did come out of it - people are reminded that overtime rules have changed and mostly we are reminded to keep track of the score. I am not saying anyone did anything wrong here, and it appears the poster has back off of his first statement, but I have frequently seen table workers make mistakes on the score and coaches are too involved in the matches to notice. Mistakes will happen when you do 85 to a 100+ matches on a mat, and it is good to be reminded to watch. Sportsfan02 is right. How would the web police pick which threads to delete. It appears they already have a good standard, when you get personal with vulgar language or when something negative is said about a kid. Do we only delete when something is said about a club we like?? The internet is about spreading information. It will not always be perfect, but in this case it probably did serve the greater good and even if not, it was clearly not so bad as to justify invoking big brother. Sorry if anyone disagrees, but freedom of speech is important everywhere.
