Why can't we do a satelite weigh in at some places atound the state to keep cost down? No hotel for friday night and save gas trying to go back and forth Friday night could save alot of money.

You won't need a hotel. If they have only one person weighing in everyone like last year, you can sleep in the the weigh in line.

Any thoughts or ideas that anyone has regarding the tournament, ie.. Satelite weigh in's, times for weigh in.. should be brought to our State Chairman's attention. The board gives us guidelines to follow when running the state tournament. We don't make the rules we just follow them.

I think the main question, from a lot of folks is the Friday night only weigh in for Greco. For folks like me, the extra $$$ for a motel, meals and so forth weighs on you. Especially when it is close enough to drive on a Saturday morning, but too far to drive back and forth without spending the night. I also think that if doing a Friday afternoon weigh in, you could also almost do the Greco portion on Friday night, but I realize a lot of folks may not like that.

I appreciate all the tournament committee and USAWKS do, but like I said, I have personally heard of a lot of complaints regarding the weigh in situation and Greco only having to weigh in Friday evening.

We are always looking for new ways to improve the state tournament. As many of you probably remember, the tournament used to be a two day event until three years ago when we decided to try and see if we could get all of the wrestling done in a single day. I receive significant feedback every year, and so far the response to the single-day tournament has been very positive.

In order to complete the state tournament in a single day, it is important that we start wrestling early on Saturday. This has necessitated a Friday weigh-in for Greco to give the pairers time to get the brackets ready for the 8:00 a.m. start on Saturday.

We have discussed the possibility of allowing satellite weigh-ins, but the prevailing opinion was that it was important that the integrity of the state tournament be above reproach. The results of this tournament can affect who qualifies for the various state teams, and we did not want to have situations where there might be some doubt about the accuracy of any particular competitor's weight.

None of this is written in stone, and we've seen many changes to this event over the years. If you would like to see some changes in future state tournaments, talk to anyone on the Corporate Board and let them know your opinion. In particular, the Junior and Cadet divisions are the ones most affected by the results of this tournament. Both Mike Garcia (Junior Director) and Tom Peterman (Cadet Director) will be available at the Junior/Cadet table on Saturday, and would certainly be interested in receiving feedback concerning the format of the tournament.

I agree with the one day idea, but feel that by making the weigh ins for greco on friday we make the wrestlers from long distances stay the night and eliminate the kids that can't get there the night before (parents work) and the famlies that just can't afford to spend the exta money for a hotel room. This change only helps the local wrestlers by eliminating a lot of outstanding wrestlers around the state that will only be able to do freestyle.

If we need to weigh in the night before due to time preparing bout sheets then I feel that we should go back to the 2 day format (would like to fix 1 day format as 1st choice)

Doing weigh ins over the state will be a problem without strict enforcement.

Let's do our best to make it work for the most important people involved in the sport --- THE KIDS

Is thier any way my sons can weigh in sat for greco? One of them has a baseball game friday at 6:30-7:45. I know you are trying to make every one happy but my boys want to wrestle greco as they have been training for it. I live in rossville & could drive them down friday (tonight) but would not be thier untill 8:30 or so. Is thier someone I could call about this matter? My cell is 785-230-3877. e-mail is 00680786@sbcglobal.net. their is no phone# or e-mail on flyer. Or I would drive them down today before his ball game if I could set somthing up.

I believe that satellite weigh-ins could be done with integrity by having a High School AD verify weights with a signature. Having grouped the weights all season, this would still be a step-up in equity. The one-day format is great, especially with the turn-out that we have been getting.

On another subject, I know that there was a lot of lively discussion about the camp requirement for Southern Plains. I was in favor of the camp being voluntary. However.... I actually like the idea of making the State FS/GR tournmament mandatory to wrestle at Southern Plains. Any way that we could increase participation at the State tournament would be helpful. It would also firm up our National dual teams.

I like your idea of having a High School AD verify weights with a signature. This should take out any questions of integrity.

Even better yet, maybe the commitee members could travel to the 4 corners of the state and supervise the weigh ins at selected locations. We could ask for a donation from the clubs/parents that will benifit. I would give $10 to not have to leave work early (lose leave or $30/hr), drive 120 miles, stay in a hotel (min $60) and eat out (min $30).

TOTAL SAVING - $110

The increase in kids participating in Greco - PRICELESS

The Ad's are probably on vacation. I would look the the Junoir and cadet directors for a satalite weigh-in.
Reight in Pitt.
Garcia in Hutch.
Peterman in kc area.
Knox in Wichita.
Not sure about out west.
Corp board members live in the state somewere.
