Has it not been primarily from NE Kansas?

olathe nw is big enough

freestate could have 4 mats (2 mats in each gym) and good parking

Olathe east is big enough ,but bad parking

Topeka high... last time we were there it was great, but i remember coaches being pissed about the parking

Expocentre

Allen fieldhouse

BVNW is good..... that would be prime, good location, good parking, its big enough.

Just some ideas

Any HS venue is in my opinion a joke to hold the HS state tournament. Hutch does at least have a very nice facility, and this has all been discussed before, but we need the leadership of KHSAA to take a more "visionary" approach and work on a better solution for the very near future and not settle for HS venues and also separate venues for the state tournament.

That makes sense with 18 6A schools in NE KS and 10 from the Wichita area. Only 2 Western KS 6A schools and 2 from District 2 north.

You know they're talking about a state tournament, right?

Olathe NW: Heard it was selected, but not now?
Freestate: You really want a state tourney wrestled between 2 gyms?
Olathe E: I can't say, but if you say there's bad parking - what would it be like for a state meet?
Topeka High: I called the 6A Regional there last year. It was tight for just a Regional so how tight would a state meet be???
Expocentre: Shriners have always had and will always have their circus there the same weekend.
Allen FH: Ever think wrestling will take place in "The Phog"???
BVNW: I can't say, haven't ever been there...

LancerLou, So it's OK for 5a state to be at Hutch but not 6A? Hutch is a dang nice facility but it still has that "high school" stigma regardless of which class it's in. Koch arena should be big enough for both 5a and 6a. Why would we not push to have them both at Koch?

Lancer Lou,

I would "Assume" it would be at the "Sports Arena" not "Hutch High"

It would definately be the sweetest picture taken: Wrestling mats from door to door in one of the mecca's of College Basketball! I think the "Phog" would lift to find yourself only dreaming!! ;\) Shoot, Neismith (sp?) or the Phog himself would probably come back from the dead to prevent that from ever happening!!!

JayHawkster -

Thanks for the info. I did not know that Hutchinson had a sports arena separate from the high school.

The sports arena in Hutch will not be the site of the state tournament. Hutch High has recently finished their Salt Hawk multi-use center on campus. It holds 2800 people. It is a nice facility, but still a High School.

Salt Hawk Activity Center

The facility was utilized to host the 2006 Southern Plains Junior Regional Wrestling Tournament.

As a 5A coach I am not excited about the potential of having state at a High School facility, but I know that complaining (and certainly complaining on a public forum) will not change anything. In talking with Mr. Bowden last spring he was frustrated and was trying to do the best for our wrestlers as was practically possible. I seriously doubt that the complaining and teeth nashing that has occured on this forum has anything to do with where 6A state vs 5A state will be located. It seems to have to do with who is willing to host the meet, and which venues are available and affordable.

While I am not excited about having state at a High School facility, I am still excited for State (regardless of location) and what it means- the chance to win a state championship (individuals and team).

An unsigned contract sitting on an athletic directors desk certainly has no benefit to either party. A friendly telephone call to remind the athletic director of the situation does wonders.

The signed contract has been received by The KSHSAA.

Mr. Bowden's frustration was of his and The KSHSAA's own making.

Allow me to remind you it was Mr. Bowden and The KSHSAA which turned down the Coliseum's two year contract proposal at the conclusion of the 2006 tournament. The KSHSAA agreed to a one year contract for 2007 and gambled the facility would be available for 2008. Prior to the 2007 KSHSAA State Tournament a potential lessee approached the lessor and voila - the Coliseum was booked for the dates of the KSHSAA State Tournament.

Is the classification announcement on the 20th or the 29th?

The enrollment figures from September 20 are the basis for the classifications which are released after that date.

Generally a week to ten days after all enrollment data is received the classifications are released.
