In December the school board will vote on whether or not to add a wrestling program back into the Central of Burden High School. We have not had wrestling in High School or Jr High since 1999. They added a Jr High program back last season and now we hope to add a high school program for the 2008-2009 school year. Any help in advice that I can take to the board with me would be greatly appreciated. I would like to say something before they have the vote. We started a youth program and our in are 4th year and it is going good. This year we have 23 kids. Thanks

Just asking how many kids go out for basketball? and let the board know not every kid that goes out get to play that much, unless they like sittng on the bench and watching. In wrestling all the kids at lease get to wrestle and belive me it will help your football down the road, wrestlers make better football players. Its great to hear the school is at lease voting on the idea and if they put it in the middle school you have a good chance to bring it into the high school. good luck and we will be watching.

Didn't the program go until 2000, because I do believe Tony Schooley qualified all four years and his senior year was 2000.

Scott,
I believe the way to sell the program to them is by the indirect positive impact it will have on the football program. If I remember correctly a couple of years ago there was some concern about even being able to field a football team due to a lack of numbers at Central. The BOE may not be wrestling fans but they have all attended football games and know the impact of football on the total athletic department budget.

Yea it was 2000. There is usually 30 kids go out for beasketball. They did a survey of kids in the 8th through 11th grade and there was 15 interested. The football deal was blown way out of proportion, that year there was 21 kids that played football and there was 22 this year.
