It was our understanding that Hays could host the District tournament provided that Special Olympics was not going on at the same time. Every hotel room in Hays is already SOLD OUT!!!!

Is it too late to allow another club to host this tournament? Or if this is a nasty rumor, please set me straight!!

I personally called each motel, with the same response from all that they were booked for that weekend due to Special Olympics basketball tournament that weekend.

Yes, I understand that Wakeeney & Russell are 30 miles from there, as a last resort we will book rooms there.

I don't think it matters where I am from. Yes, more kids attend sub-districts, however, the host is usually closer to home.

Hays does host great tournmaments, that is not the issue. I would just like clubs to take into consideration lodging & facilities when offering to host district tournaments. I was told that their club was specifically asked if Special Olympics was going on that weekend and they said no. This is the rumor that I wanted clarified.

Stay at the AmericInn in Russell. It's brand new, has an indoor pool, and they had plenty of rooms when we booked.

Maybe you shouldn't be so defensive. I just wanted to know the real story not just the rumor! You are corrrect, and so is your young olympic coach, there are special olympics going in in Wichita early this year as well. This situation occurred a few years back when Hays hosted the tournament the same weekend as special olympics. Next time I will know to book the minute districts are to be hosted in Hays to avoid the situation.

Thanks to those who actually helped out! I will give the hotel in Russell a try. Do you know if Meridy's is still in business there? They do have a great steak!

OU812: I too made a post to you about your comments last night. I decided to delete it and was going to send you a private email, and now regret having done so.
I think you owe her an apology. You told her to get on the ball, and that Special Olympics were in Wichita. Obviously YOU needed to "get on the ball" before commenting since there are Special Olympics being held in Hays. One of the reasons I did post, is b/c I too recall several deragatory and sarcastic posts you have made in the past. I also am sure you have used another login to make comments to support the ones stated under OU812, since your email address showed up on another profile last year when you were belittling a topic under both names. Most of all, after she proved you wrong, instead of apologizing, you came back with sarcasim again and told her that she should push for District in her home town. You also used the "did you ever think about that" statement regarding the scheduling. I'll help you out a little. You dont just locate the Special Olympics in a community 2 months ahead of time, it is scheduled far in advance, and was scheduled before our district meeting. The most obvious reason is solidifying the gyms and Gross Memorial Colisium to hold the event(s). You dont just get that by calling up a few weeks ahead of time. To use your wording - "Did you ever think about that?"
1) You should apologize
2) Hays should have either known, or made it known that the Special Olympics were going to take place so that a more educated vote could have been made. It's quite possible that they would have gotten the vote anyway, who knows.
I am not upset that District is at Hays. I know several of the club organizers personally and like and respect them. What I dont like or respect are your rude and sarcastic posts.
