The Concordia Panthers set up a showdown with Clay Center for the North Central Kansas League wrestling title by defeating Chapman 44-26, Thursday night, in the Concordia Junior-Senior High School gymnasium.
Concordia, now 17-6 overall in duals this season, improved to 4-0 in the league with the win.
Clay Center remained unbeaten in the NCKL with a 53-19 win over Abilene.
The two teams will meet with the league championship on the line, Thursday night, in Clay Center.
“This was a great league win in a great atmosphere,” Concordia coach Kevin Brown said, “It was nice to have a strong home crowd for the dual and the Winter Sports activities. I was very proud of the way our wrestlers improved from last weekend.”
Concordia grabbed a 6-0 lead when Kevin Licharowicz received a forfeit in the 103-pound class.
Chapman won the next three matches in the dual.
Chace Hensley, 112, lost by technical fall, 16-0, to Matt Coles.
Heath Hoesli dropped a 5-3 decision to Michael Poland in the 119-pound class.
Alec Champlin, 125, was pinned by Morgan Shorter.
The Panthers then won five straight matches to take control of the dual.
Brandon Huber pinned Andrew Todd in the 130-pound class.
Brandon Anguish, 135, won by technical fall over Nichol Kesterson.
Levi Whitley, 140, pinned Levi Jaderborg.
Christian Fazel won by forfeit in the 145-pound class.
Jordan Tholstrup, 152, was beaten 5-3 by Chapman’s Jess Lemon.
Concordia won the next three matches to secure the win.
Dirk Lowell, 160, defeated Cody Provance, 8-6.
Tyler Hasenbank pinned Noel Richardson in the 171-pound class.
Levi Kindel, 189, pinned Perry Freeman, and the Panthers led 44-17.
The Irish won the final two matches.
James Remley, 215, was beaten 7-3 by Ray Hidalgo.
Concordia was open in the 285-pound class.
“As we continue to improve, we are becoming more confident and creating scoring opportunities. We ae also wrestling a higher tempo match which wears down our opponents and allows us to control the last minutes to create pinning situations.”
The Panthers won all three junior varsity matches.
Austin Hasenbank, 125, picked up two wins. He won by technical fall, 18-3, over Trenton Kern and pinned Ryan Hemmel.
Devon Monroe, 215, pinned Austin Abeldt.
Concordia is competing in the Rose Hill Invitational, today and Saturday.
