Let me just add, I would be behind a stand alone tournament in February. If that meant the 6U division would be over for the rest of the year. The ones that wanted to go on would have to wrestle 8U.

Agreed, but if you do that, why not have a minimum weight at 8u say 49lb. other age classes have a minimum right? 10u 55lb. is the lightest you weigh correct? So why not do the same for 8u.. DO That and you'll loose 4 weight divisions at state whom are already 6u.

I like the 6u stand alone tourn. I will bring my future 6u (he is 2 now and will hit the mat as soon as the diapers come off) to the 8u big show , subs anyway, if he is ready, willing and able.

I see alot of you wanting this 6 & under state but no one has said I will do it, you all say THEY should do this and THEY should do that, no one seems to want to step up, and spouting off on here is doing nothing. NO i dont see a need for it but hey its fun to get on here and put your 2 cents in hu.

p.s. now watch them all step up on here, and do nothing in the real world!

Ottawa and Topeka have both stepped up. Couple of problems I see. 1) we only need one 2) how many tournaments will cut out the 6U division after 6U state.

Why is that we are on here and people saying a 6 y/o shouldn't wrestle in state tourny's. What about National tourny's? How many of you that are against this have had your kid wrestle in these types of tourny's. If they cant handle state then they shouldn't go to these. I know that some of you that say no did send your kid to these and many others. I am for adding but i am also for shortening the season. Why not be like Oklahoma add the 6u shorten the season as well as the qualifying run for state. If parents, coaches, etc think season is too long then have your kid stop and not wrestle. But when everyone else starts telling people what is best for other children and wrestlers then they are off base.

The problem is we don't have a venue big enough to add the 6u in the present format. That is why people are suggesting a stand alone 6u state tournament. At the present state tournament you have 14u 150lbs wrestling on half mats. There is not enough room to add the 6u.

then we need to move the venue. Bigger location and a city with more hotels.

Where is the bigger venue in the state? Are you going to build an arena that is big enough to accomidate all of the age groups? That is the problem we don't have a venue big enough.

A stand alone 6 & under state tournament would still require a vote by the state body if it were to be sanctioned by USAWKS.
If a school were to host a Stand Alone 6 & Under state tournament not sanctioned by USAWKS they (the host club)would have to purchase additional outside insurance I assume - so that the school district or facility it was being held in were not liable for some unforeseen problem. The six and under participants still represent only 27% of the total USAWKS organization. I would like to see a poll of the KIDS - NOT THE PARENTS how important a state tournament is to them at 5 or 6 years old. I'll bet you they would want to know if Dippen Dots will be served. I have, informally over the years questioned past wrestlers (who started at 5 or 6 years old and some of them now are in or out of college, in their late 20's early 30's) and their parents about this issue and none of them said that I should change my vote on the 6 & Under State Tournament issue. Maybe, I am asking all the wrong people. There will be time for them to shine in the spot light. They (the current 6 & Unders) will be able to try to get to 10 more kids state tournaments and 4 high school state tournaments by their 18th birthday. The way 6 & Under State is set up now it is an Open tournament and anyone wanting to signup qualifies for state. All 1,847 can sign up for the 6 and under state tournament and be a state qualifier. My son is going into college next year and I did not see 6 & under state qualifier on his latest resume.
