Derby will kick GOGGARDS butte!!

But against "Goddard", now that will be interesting to see how each team reloads from last year, each team lost some solid wrestlers. I would think Goddard will come out of the gate strong again this year. Derby will be a good team, but will be better at season end as their young guns gain experience. This is a monster of a duel to start the season with.

Good luck to both teams this year. I sure will miss being right in the middle of all the action

Again Wells, a dual win is very nice but the rankings reflect tournament scoring. Not to say that Derby would not come out ahead but with Goddard having 4 likely champions, that is quite a few team points.

If I remember right last year, Derby went to Goddard and dominated them. I know Goddard had some of their studs hurt early last year, but one duel doesn't make for a season. It will be a battle all year long between these 2 teams & others. I'm sure Ross would give up the duel win to be on top at the end of the year and Goddard will use this as motivation to improve also. Two good teams only one State Champion. Good luck to both teams.

Its crazy that this season started out like last years.
A few key people out can make all the difference. This would of been a very different out come if Beard would of wrestled! It was a great Dual and a great way to start out each of their seasons. I know they will both build on this! It looks to be great year of wrestling.

You also have to look at the people Derby are missing.. Skyler Mccomb and Kyle Westmorland are both state placers last year.. State will be a blast to watch these two teams compete for the tital!

A dual means nothing! We don't have a dual state. The state champion team is determined by individuals placing in an individual tournament which is MUCH different than a dual. The rankings, I believe, are a prediction of how the teams will finish in the KS HS state tournament with their best guy wrestling in each individual bracket. If Derby is to jump Goddard it would have to be after they beat them in this type of tournament, not a dual.

Cokeley, I like you. I think your good for the sport, but I think that you missed on this one. Should it determine everything???? No. Especially this early in the year, but....a duel is one way to get one teams best head to head with the other teams best. Plus...as a sport I think we have gotten away from the team aspect that makes this sport one of the best. I think that the pride and stratigy that comes into play with a duel brings even more excitement. I know that you are talking about rankings and you are right there, but what is a ranking this early in the year? Question??? Should we even come out with these rankings this early in the year???? With kids not at weight or not in the lineup??? Comments?

If there were no Rankings early in the season what would everyone on this Forum talk about. Was a very good Dual last night. Good crowd that really got into the Heavy Weight Match that determined the out come Neither team was at full strength, but score board Derby won.

If there was no forum...... How would the moms find out what their kid should be ranked in October?

Coach Craig,

I love duals and I agree with everything you say about them but KSHSAA competition points system makes it a poor use of your points to have a weekday dual event when you only get a match or two and burn up two points or one if it is a one-on-one dual. The rankings have nothing to do with how a team can perform in a dual because the strategies you spoke of are not deployable in an individual tournament. It would be best for Kansas wrestling overall if we got a few more competition points to be used for weekday only dual events and if we had a dual state to determine the best team instead of using individual placings at state to determine the best "team".

And finally, Rankings are great any time of the year! Rankings create discussion and interest. Our sport needs lots of discussion and interest. We need to get the media more involved with the rankings and get the coaches out of that role.

I love the discussion, but is there any way to change the title of this thread? Goddard deserves more respect than that.

maybe in the future they can add bishop carroll and make it a triangular and make it worth while. can you imagine what that triangular would have been like last year. i would have skipped kids practice to go watch it then.
