Sorry I was refering to all the votes for other tournaments in my previous post. I wonder if anyone who voted for Newton is going to the Rocky Welton Invite and would be willing to post a comment after the tournament.

Are the facilities and accommodations for fans any better at Garden than they are at Newton? Cokely never would show me any of his video so I could form an opinion.

What do you mean facilities and accommodations? Their gym will be fairly packed just with the wrestlers and coaches. Add fans to the mix and it is a packed house, no doubt. I have no doubt that this is BY FAR the toughest tourney in Kansas now. Newton is tough, but by bringing in Rio Rancho and the great Colorado schools it has gotten a lot tougher over the years.

I mean, that is one of the problems with the large tournaments in Kansas are the facilities or lack thereof. If we want to attract and keep top competition we need to try to get them into larger/better arenas if possible. I have been to Newton but I haven't been to Garden so I was wondering about the size of the facility it was in. I know the Newton merchants would squawk but I would like to see it moved down the road to the Coliseum if it's available.

I say we start a tournament in Salina and host it at the Bicentennial Center. We can call it the Crossroads Brawl, due to this being where the interstate highways meet. Invite the top teams from all over Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico just to name a few. Make it similar to the KCI tournament. I’m tellin’ you this thing could be big.

As far as the gym being crowded this year at Garden City---I have 2 wrestlers going this weekend and they came home last night and told us that Garden will be using their auxillary gym this year for the 152 and up brackets and the 145 and down will be in the main gym. This is for the first two rounds on Friday. Should not be too much of a crowd issue this year, and from going the last 2 years to this tournament, the only issue you really run into is Garden fans "saving" 2/3 of the gym for themselves---and they have all the right, it is their home gym.

The problem with that is the fact that the coliseum is VERY expensive to rent. The Bicentennial center is perfect for that venue, but it is not free either.

The GC tournament is ALWAYS ran well. It seems that the middle section under the press box on the east side is usually saved with ribbon, but it comes down pretty fast once the gym starts to fill up. I think the GC fans just need to get there early, like everyone else!

Shelstin--You are very right here. Garden is a very well ran tournament. Sometimes I really wish the kids tournaments i go to could be ran this well.

I've got a feeling the cost to rent the Coliseum is going to come down pretty shortly or else the Coliseum itself is going to come down.

Garden City has the best hospitality room in the country. It has gotten a lot tougher over the years too.
