Why can't our kids have the same passion we do for this sport? I know we have to let them do what makes them happy, but i guess i'm a little selfish. My youngest son just decided this week he's not having fun wrestling anymore. Hopefully he'll change his mind, chances are it won't be this year. His two older brothers tried it and they have moved on to other things. The hardest thing for me to choke down is my youngest was the one that was good at this sport. Hopefully we'll be back someday, all I can do is cross my fingers. Just venting here, maybe taking a year off will give him a chance to rekindle the flame.

Maverick, Sorry to hear you are having a struggle with the way you feel and the way your sons feel. I think we have all been in this situation and if we havent then we will eventually..If not with wrestling with something else..I didnt want my daughter to start wrestling at first I was one of the ppl who thought it was for the "boys".She was very insistent that she wanted to and could handle it and while I struggled with my feelings about this she shined ..My youngest son was all about wanting to wrestle and at first he wasnt that good and I started catching myself thinkin about the shoes he had to fill following his sister and older brother..The more time has passed I now see that it is not a competition but in order for me to see that I spent the first couple of tournaments saying to myself he just dont have it he is not them and cant hold up but even though he was getting beat every tournament he still smiled and couldnt wait for his next match or tournament..I am proud today to say that he stuck with it and had his first win of the season last weekend..My kids have the passion for the sport I was the one that took the passion and made it greed and selfishness to always feel as though you have to be the best or you just dont make the cut..As a parent that was wrong..But I too was selfish I wanted the win for me I wanted them to wrestle the best for me I wanted them to have the fastest pin the most wins the quickest takedown and all my kids wanted was to wrestle..I am glad that I figured out what is important before I turned werstling into something my kids no longer carried that passion for because I took the passion away..I can not say why your son decided it wasnt fun anymore and please dont take this the wrong way but as you said yourself you are a little selfish so maybe you wanted them to have the same amount of passion as you and you took the fun out of it just as I almost did..I hope that your son does come back especially if he has talent and skill but he also has to have the heart..Take whatever your kids do have passion in and try to find the passion for them too..and the best thing about wrestling is this just because you dont have any kids wrestling there is always a need for more coaches who want to share the passion they have with the ones who have it too..So you can still share your passion with others..There is still passion in wrestling its just not for everyone..Please keep me updated and let me know what happens with your family I have one that has a passion for Basketball and she shares that with her Grandma I cant tell you anything about Basketball but I wouldnt miss yelling good lay up when she really just got the rebound Its not my passion but if she has it I will be more than happy to share it with her..GOOD LUCK!!
