Coaches have an obligation to conduct themselves properly when in the presence of athletes! (imo)
In some States, coaches aren't allowed to consume tobacco or alcohol even when they are "off-duty." At Fargo, there are State team leaders and coaches who do not drink a beer during the waking hours of their wrestlers. I've been at Buffalo Wild Wings and witnessed this.
I think we can model the proper way to conduct ourselves, short of total abstinence. But if Kansas passed a similar code, I really could not argue.
As I stated elsewhere, while I am wearing my coaching hat, my conduct better be worthy of being copied!
I think we are treading dangerous waters when we ask our kids to look the other way while we break the rules. And clearly those waters are shark infested, when we ask our kids to conspire along with us to break the rules.
