Toughest First round 5A matches (KWCA ranked razzlers vs KWCA ranked razzlers)

103: # 1 Watters (Ark City) vs # 3 Kmiec (Shawn Heights)

152: # 5 Stults (Valley Cen) vs #6 Willis (Shawn Heights)

189: # 4 Wessel (Lansing) vs # 5 Matheny (Bishop Carrol)

Lots of good match ups-and a lot of what should be walk overs

How do they come up with the State brackets? and who and when they will be wrestling against. One of the weights seems as if the higher ranked kid wrestles a much harder set up than another? Top of the bracket vs the bottom? I don't mean to sound so dumb, I just wondered? Thanks

The State brackets are actually the least subjective of all, because there is no seating (or seeding) in them. Each regional is given a letter designation from the KSHAA when the regional hosts are announced:

http://www.kshsaa.org/WRESTLING/Regionaldesignations.pdf

The regionals are completed and as such the top 4 from each are determined. Only then and then AFTER the regionals are completed the KSHAA releases the regional pairings matching up the kids using the 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 typical pairings.

http://www.kshsaa.org/WRESTLING/2009%20state%20pairings.pdf

I like the system because I feel it is the one tournament of the year that you can't argue the bracket. It is what it is.

I also like it because if someone loses unexpectedly as the posts mention above, you get some very interesting first round pairings.

Sorry if I mised something. My list was ranked vs ranked.

The 17 Feb KWCA 5A Rankings I used to cross check with the State wt brackets had Dylan Penka as the # 2 125 pounder (not ranked as a 130 pounder). Perhaps he moved up a wt for regional and state.

Also, ranking sheet does not show 119 pounder Wauer from Washigton ranked (does show Corado from Pitt at # 5.)

Here is the KSHSAA methodology for State Tourney bracketing/seeding. Totally nonsubjective and fair tto everyone. At State, a regional 1st placer will always wrestle a regional 4th place, and a regional 2nd placer will always start out wrestling a regional 3rd placer. The regional wt and location letter designators (A,B,C,D) are changed every year. Keeps everything fair and above board and no human involvement in the seeding. You gets who the system gives you!!!

2008-2009 PAIRINGS
STATE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT
State pairings for all Classes (16-Man Brackets)
Pairings for the state tournaments in all Classes will be established by the KSHSAA. Release of the designation letter for each regional will not be prior to midnight on February 21, 2009. Beginning on February 22, 2009 the regional designations and the state pairings may be found on the KSHSAA home page at www.kshsaa.org. All weight classes have been drawn by lot. Letter designations for the Regional tournament sites have also been drawn by lot, making the following pairings for the first round of the State Class 6A, Class 5A, Class 4A and Class 3-2-1A Tournaments.

Sorry abou my last post format. Tried to separate lines and columns (like a table) but this page will not hold my changes. But, carefull reading may reveal the system---if not go to the kshsaa.org home page---Activities--wrestling and click on Regional designations

This wasn't going off of ranked vs. ranked. I just meant to point out a good match-up, should be an exciting match to watch. Sorry if there was any confusion.
