Nice post Mike - A coach is responsible for the entire team based on the talent they have in given year. Will - some kids may not come back the next year if they 0-2 in every tournament. You and I attended some spring/summer tournaments and local kids had the opportunity in their back yard to compete against (some of the best) guys in the region and we had questionable attendance at those events. There was no highschool AD or Coaches making the kids/parents schedules.

No doubt it is tough but the easy way out is to NOT travel and to wrestle the same, lower quality, competition every week. The fish will just get "fishier"! Is it our goal to make it easier so everyone will do it? That seems like a cop out. Life is tough! Lets prepare our youths for reality no a walk in the park.

Are there any Kansas teams that could even place in the top ten this year?

Lansing and Emporia immediately come to mind. The 6A cupboard emptied out last year. Would you only go if you could place in the top 10? If that were the case how would you ever fill a tournament? You only go if you feel like you can place...

Wasn't trying to make a point of argument just wondering. Although there are not any teams in the JOCO area that could win the team title, it would be worth seeing some of the standout individuals (Madl, Cokely, Moeder) go up against the studs from other states during the regular season.

Nick, I didn't figure you subscribed to that philosophy but I would love to hear why the coaches from Lansing don't want to go to this tournament. I PROMISE St. James would be there this year if not for the JoCo commitment. Then we could see how Moeder and Ryne match up during the regular season against some tough out of state competition. Heck, if not for the KSHSAA travel limit we would go to one or two of the Big 3.
