HELP! I need ideas

Last year our team split when the head coach moved to a new school. That left us with only 3 returning High school wrestlers and 2 returning Jr. High wrestlers. This year our returning cry high school wrestlers are 3 seniors, 1 junior and a freshman. The jr.hi team will be a 7th and an 8th grader. I need ideas on how to build the team.

go to the detention room. Also the playground bully is good to either put him in his place or he is just that tuff. you see kids wrestling around all the time. ask them to come and see what real wrestling is all about. you will find a few here and there. sometimes you will find that one that should have been wrestling along time ago but just never had the chance to see what it was all about.

Post flyers in all the locker rooms. Find kids that play football or run cross country. You might also look at local boxing clubs or maybe kids that do martial arts.
Also wrestling is great for the smaller kids for lower weight classes.
Have an wrestling open house!!!

You may also want to look at students that don't get alot of attention in school and/or home as wrestling attracts this type of kid. They are able to show everyone what THEY can do.
Or atleast they get a chance to have the spotlight for a few minutes. I have found that if this type of kid takes to or makes it through the first competition he will not quit the program. And it is many times the only sport they will participate in.
Must have a way to introduce and educate not only students but parents to the sport. It's not on TV everynight like that other sport. Many still think wrestling is WWF. And most parents don't have any idea of how you "play the game" not to mention keep score.
Also if your basketball or other sports programs are having issues in the win collum, you can suggest to your better athletes that this may be the only sport in which they can get to a state tournament. Or have a personal winning season.
Best place to start for help at school is with the football coach. Wrestling greatly inhances a players football skills expecialy on the defensive side of the ball. Your FB coach should embrace wrestling and be willing to funnel kids your way.

Bob Stoops says; "If 2 kids are equil and we (Oklahoma U.)find out one has wrestled in his past, we give the scholarship to the wrestler"

By the way Mike Gundy (OSU FB coach) was also a wrestler in OKC. as a teen.
