We are currently compiling a list of interested teams wishing to compete in the 2010 Toshiba Midwest Classic. Next year's tournament will be on December 17 & 18th, 2010. It is a 32 team individual tournament. This year we have teams from 10 states. 15 of the teams finished top 3 in their state championships last year and 8 were 1st. The 2009 tournament consisted of approximately 106 state medalists including 28 state champions and 23 more that have finished 2nd. That means well over 10% of the tournament wrestlers have been in the state finals and a fourth have state medals from their home state. Two weight class had 5 state champions each. The field included 15 Fargo All Americans in 11 weight classes.
The format is a combination of pool and bracket. We place each wrestler in one of eight 4 man round robin pools. Each wrestler will wrestle the other three competitors in their pool on Friday evening. The 1st and 2nd in each pool will go into the Gold 16 man bracket (wrestle back to 5th) and wrestle it out to 16 places and the 3rd and 4th in each pool would go into a separate Silver 16 man bracket and wrestle it out to 16 places on Saturday. This means every wrestler will get either 7 or 8 bout opportunities. We award 1st thru 8th places based on finish in the gold bracket and team trophies to the top 6 teams.
The competition committee will meet in a few weeks to decide which teams to invite to the 2010 tournament. We try to have the teams finalized and contracts done by the end of the school year. Let me know if you would like to be considered. To be added to the list or if you would like additional information you can contact Tom Taulbee at kansascitywrestlingassoc@yahoo.com or call 816-582-5417. Thanks for the interest.
