I would like to invite you to come wrestle in Minnesota.
The MYAS Gopher State Wrestling Championships has earned the reputation of being the toughest and best run K-8 folkstyle tournament in Minnesota. In 2009 we had 900 wrestlers. The tournament has drawn wrestlers from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri, Michigan and California. Wrestlers from all states are eligible to participate in all Gopher State wrestling events.
The 2010 Gopher State Championship is scheduled for February 13-14. The tournament will once again be held at Monticello High School, which is quite possibly the best wrestling facility in the state.
The Gopher State Wrestling program has seen tremendous growth since its inception in 2002. We thank you for your participation and look forward to another great season. You may also contact Jeremy Innes at 763-746-1720 or jeremy@myas.org.

We can only facilitate 450 wrestlers. There may be some who need to go out of state to get what they need. There are enough wrestlers to go around. Maybe somebody has a grandma they need to visit in Minnesota. It is just an opportunity.

Well theres like 7 other tournaments in KS that weekend! Everyone stay home and support ks wrestling! JMO!!!!!!!!!!!! Here I'll try to help here? Sounds like fun in Minnisota, If your wrestler wants to be challanged by some of great wrestlers maybe he's never wrestled before and welcomes the challange. Get to minnisota and have fun. if you want to wrestle the same kids you most likley always do please support Kansas Wrestling and have fun. And what does "JMO!!!!!!!!!!!" mean

I think means Just My Opinion!!! And I agree with it! Team Haysville had something like 700 wrestlers from 5 states and were done by about 5pm.

So you don't see a any reason for traveling outside Kansas Wrestling just for fresh faces and new competetion? I also need to say it has ZERO to do with not finding competetion in kansas or the tournys here not running smoothly. And how can you assume that these opportunities are some sort of personal attack agaist someone elses tournament. Out of state wrestling is an awsome experience and brings out the best in your wrestler. Every kid in the bracket is completely unknown just a face and singlet. You never now what to expect its exciting! JMO!!!!!!!!!

How many kids would you have hosted and how tough would your tournament have been if those kids from the other four states would have stayed home??? It seems like HighC and BLT are getting carried away. I simply posted information about a tournament. I didn't encourage anyone to go but I certainly wouldn't discourage them. Last time I checked we still lived in the land of the free!

exactly will you know as well as i do, if you want to get better sometimes you have to leave your own back yard. i don't understand why so many people are getting so upset.

Ego & power tripping is what I see a lot of in Kids wrestling. Don't practice with other teams, stay local, travel with the team, don't do this, don't do that. What about having fun & letting the kid get a little diversity. If my kid goes to Minnesota & gets roughed up & learns along the way which helps in March, who gets the credit? THE TEAM. Sometimes the same team trying to keep you from doing these things. We are going to Tulsa at the end of the month. That doesnt mean we don't like or support Manhattan quite the opposite . It means the boy wants to go to Tulsa & I have saved so we are going. IMO (remember what that means trowbridge?) I am teaching my kids how to wrestle. Civics & citizenship are tought all day everyday & at night too. It seems we are making that the main focus of Kids wrestling. Don't get me wrong it is important, but more important to me is preparing the wrestler for that path. ( yeah I stole that from Randy)and wrestling the same kids every weekend doesnt do that very well. This is a great sport that gives kids tons of opportunities as long as parents & coaches don't get in the way.
