Kansas Wrestling Forums General Discussion High School Ranked Wr. not going to State

I really can't believe that I'm referring to rankings, but I have always thought that once the State Tourn. series starts the rankings should not change.

So using my logic the 3-2-1A State Rankings dated 2-15-10, have several wrestlers ranked that did not qualify for the State Tourn. Looking at just the Norton Regional the following ranked wrestlers did not qualify:
103: #3
112: #3 & #4
125: #4
140: #5
152: #2
160: #6
171: #5
189: #5
A total of 9 ranked wrestlers did not make it out of the Norton Regional.

I do not have the time or energy to look up all the regionals but I challenge others see how many Ranked Wrestlers not make it out of the Regionals (esp. 3-2-1A). Make sure you use the Feb. 15th rankings.

And finally, why do the rankers scramble to change the rankings after Regionals (which is officially part of the State Tourn. Series).

Ok so to answer why we redo them before the State tourney? I do not know I just do mainly to fix my fouls ups. The amount of time and energy that I put into making the rankings for others is fun for me, I enjoy looking at results and the banter it starts with people.
I do the best I can with the information that is available to me, some coaches do not make my job easier. Maybe it is internet penetration in parts of the state. I never get to see all the wrestlers in the state wrestle, especially those from your part of the state. And I knew there would be upsets at all Regionals and there will be at State that I cannot predict, its a total crap-shoot most of the time!
I hope that wrestlers prove me wrong, most of them my own,and beat wrestlers who are ranked.
I do beleive we have already had this converesation in persaon anyway, the rankings are mostly for the kids and their parents. For coaches they are mostly a headache!

And Mr. Billy "White Asics Tigers Shoes" Johson don't you worry I am gonna keep retooling them and will be keeping my own grade sheet on my performance. I know ya miss me but ya didn't have to call me out on the internet box machine.HAHAHA

Out of the Marion Regional, all of the ranked wrestlers made it. There were a total of 13 ranked wrestlers there and out of all them only one did not make finals and he was able to win his 3rd/4th place match.

160: Thibault 1st ranked 1st
171: N/A
189: N/A
215: Lowe 1st ranked 5th
285: Huffman 1st ranked 2nd, Denny 2nd ranked 6th

Coach Brown: You are a good guy and I do thank you for taking the time and energy to do the rankings. You know that I was just kiddin you. I was just trying to get an idea if any other regionals esp. in 3-2-1A lost ranked wrestlers at regionals. It seemed like we had more than our fair share this year.

And by the way, how did you know that I still wear "White Asics Tigers Shoes" ?

you know I could never be mad at you, I knew you were kidding as was I. And I agree that your Regional was brutal, I talked to Malay a bit over the weekend so we kept each other up to date. Congrats on qualifing 10 and I am happy to be coming back this year with a few of my own.

Not a bad topic though Bill. The last posting of rankings always create a discussion based on placement in their brackets. Speaking for 4A/6A, they will not be a prediction of the bracket. If the best two wrestlers are on one side, I will still rank them 1 and 2.

As to the ranked wrestlers not making state, 6A had 4 casualties. Haven't looked at 4A yet.

Old ranker dudes did not change Rankings after regionals. This new guy wants to keep up with the old guys percentages!!! Of course before computers, and internet, rankings were really interesting. Via the mail and phone. You boys have it tough!

The key word is "ranked". Rankings mean something in the BCS and look at that can of worms.
The "ranked" wrestlers are not going because they got beat at least one match by an "unranked" wrestler in most cases.
Rankings and seedings which are subjective are null and void once the bracket begins.
The Norton regional was nasty 30 years ago and will be 30 years from now. To be somebody you have to be somebody. Sometimes it happens before state.
