Just curious as to if the final roster is complete and when we can see them listed?

Is the Senior Nationals made up of state teams, or just idividual wrestlers? Are they wearing team uniforms? Does each individual pay his own way, or are the Kansas wrestlers supported by KWCA, USA HAWKS, or some other group(s)?

Hopefully they got us all entered. We sent all of our info to the Elvin's. They sent us a list of wrestlers that had signed up for nationals and there were quite a few on that list.

I just learned that the entry list is not complete. Those listed have entered on their own. You guys are fine, I'm sure.

That is very typical for the KS seniors not to have entries online until a little later. Dont worry seniors, Chuck and Cherie have you covered.

Just curious.
After looking through the list I see that some of the kids did not finish 1st or 2nd at their high school State Championships.
I thought you had to be a state finalist at some point during your high school career to qualify for Senior Nationals.
Is that just a Kansas rule??

I know even in Kansas you can petition to attend Sr Nationals if you did not make the finals. I am not sure of the criteria for this to be approved. It particularly makes sense when often the toughest matches are in the semis due to the way our state brackets are set.

LancerLou, I did not know you could 'petition' to attend either, very interesting.
According to the list provided from a link posted by Chief, some of the kids did not even place at a State Tournament.
Chief, Cokeley or anybody that may know; what is the criteria to qualify for this event. Does it vary state to state?? Is their events held during the summer that will qualify a kid??
Again, just curious..

On the web site certain states are allowed the lower than 1st or 2nd. Kansas is not one of those states, I believe because those states only wrestle one State Championship, I could be wrong though.

States that have one class like California and Indiana are granted a spot for placing in the top 8. Some other states are allowed top 4 due to having two or three classes. Kansas is a multiple class state and so they want the top 2. The petition process is available for kids that maybe just missed placing, had tough competition or had an injury. I've seen they've been pretty liberal in the past in approving petitions. So if you kid that 3rd and wants to go, the NHSCA would likely approve.

Great example was when Dante Rogers of Wichita NW lost to Nathan Furches of Derby in the semis and had to battle back and take 3rd. Rogers petitioned and then took 5th at 103 Senior Nationals.

Yes you are correct. If you lose to the Champion and take 3rd, a petition process is possible. That only applies to Senior Nationals. You do not need to qualify/place at state for the Freshman, So., Jr. nationals.

rogers also wrestled at 103 at seniors so he only had to win like 1 match to place and maybe 2 to get 5th so not the perfect example

I dont think we are talking about the same thing. But yes 103 is usually less than full 16 man brackets. This has been even more true since they changed the rules so you cannot drop a weight after state. Just not that many 103lb Seniors.

Which weight did he certify or wrestle at this year? In order for him to be eligable for 135 he had to certify at that weight this year. You may not compete at a weight lower than your state certification weight.
Should your state not have the weight certification system in place, you may not wrestle lower than the weight you competed at the 2009-10 State Dual Meet Championships or Individual State Championships.
