Who's the best team out? Who's going to win state as a team? If you think your team should/will do well at state say so.

Who gives a crap? Honestly, the team title at kids state doesn't mean crap, expecially since some clubs take 70 wrestlers and some take 1.

Dear Nigel:
As adults, we all realize the team title means little, however the title may be important to the kids, as they cheer on their teammates, and hopefully learn the value of participating on a team and what teamwork will accomplish.
These kids have spent months and sometimes years working together, and develop lifetime friendships and bonds.
Sadly, I realize teamwork and someone cheering for your success are foreign concepts to you.

From reading Nigels ramblings on the High School pages, you have to learn how to read through his words to get the true meaning of what he's saying. I beleive in this case he is basically saying that Abilene won't be one of the top point scorers as far as a team at kids state, and therefore it is not important. However, if Abilene were loaded with potential state placers, he would be on here making the team point issue one of the most honored awards that could ever be obtained in the history of wrestling. Also Nigel, are you officiating at the state tournament?

Who cares? Honestly, the team title at kids state doesn't mean anything, expecially since some clubs take 70 wrestlers and some take 1
so then if some high schools take only 1 kid and others take 14, "who cares"

I looked over the last couple of years and it appears that to win the title a club needs about 18 to 20 placers and about a third of those placers (about 6) need to take first. That is a pretty tall building to climb. It obviously does mean something to some clubs. I don't believe we would be publishing it unless it was important to some clubs. I believe our club STA has a good chance to improve on our 16th place finish last year which was our best one so far. We have most of last year's placers returning and we did pick up some very good wrestlers from East Kansas and several other clubs this year. Like wrestlingmom said our 14 & under group is strong this year and in past years as they have progressed.

Shouldn't the "team" award get more recognition at this level? I realize there may be only 1 member representing a club --- is that fair?? In my opinion -- Absolutely!!! Everyone state wide must qualify for state. If more recognition was placed on state would the "team" work harder at practice??? Would the communities become more supportive of "our dying sport" if "team" was emphasized??? If teams were not important, why can't a person participate in the state tournament and qualifiers "independantly"??? Doesn't it take a minimum of at least two wrestlers to practice drills, learn new moves, holds, etc.??? A team consists of more than one person. One wrestler alone can not be a winner, it takes a partner. Someone mentioned a lot of good District 2 wrestlers that will not qualify. Yes - they will go home defeated individually. But --- if their team was to bring home an award (even though we don't have a "physical" award), they were still a part of that "team". Maybe it was their practice partner that placed. The fact of the matter remains, it takes a "team" to create champions. THE TEAMS SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED!!!!

I liked the oppion of wrestlemom. I will promise Paola will be there as a team. And Yes we hope to do better as a team. We may be out numbered by a lot of clubs but we can hang with them as a team. That is one of the many drills that will be going through our practice room tonight. I'm telling you Slyter gets pumped up and that enthusiasm is contagious. To the Best Teams out there, to all, good luck. Dan
