Kansas Wrestling Forums General Discussion High School Kansas vs others in All Star competition question

Ok we have Metro Classic where KS vs. MO, but has Kansas as a team (following high school season during the school year) ever faced other state's All Star teams, or USA All Stars? Who would you want on a 2011 All Kansas All Star team for the 14 weights? Maybe we can get some other states to come in and do an All Star vs. All Star round robin or something?

How about this: Ks Small classes and Ks Large classes go into 2 separate pools. We then invite all 49 states (Mississippi the only state without wrestling), and see who accepts an invite to come to Kansas for the High School Senior All Star Showcase. It could be a great revenue maker and then in return we can funnel the money back into scholarships for the 8 in state programs, and award maybe the top light weight, middle weight and upper weight wrestlers (from USA) and then 3 from Kansas with individual scholarships (might not be anything super big, but like $300 is better than nothing!

Thoughts?

Some of the others will know the name of it but for a long time (is it still going on?) they had a team of ALL-STARS from the state of PENN, that wrestled all-stars from other states in a dual-meet fashion. I have no idea how they decided the criteria to be one of the wrestlers in this elite event. But pretty much all of the matches were multi-state champs (team PENN) vs. other multi-state champs from other parts of the country (team USA). I have seen some great matches from this event via youtube.

What is is called? Help me out Cokeley and others. Thanks.

Alex, I'm going to go with.....What is "The Dapper Dan Classic"?

I remember Bo Maynes being selected his senior year, and won his match. Has anybody from KS been selected since? Or do they even still have this event?

I may have to stand corrected. According to this, Bo lost in 1998. That still doesn't sound right. Maybe a misprint. I will ask his dad the next time I see him in IHOP.

I googled the Dapper Dan out of curiosity and found that they have a "prelim" dual with the WPIAL All Stars vs a random state/area. After Googling WPIAL I found out that is probably the best sports conference in the Nation historically speaking. Most of the state placers come out of that conference which has around 70 schools!!!

Maybe Kansas can go out there and take on the WPIAL team? Anybody ever been to this event and can tell us how it is run, and how they treat the athletes? It would be fun if the trip was worth it...then again the exposure would be wonderful I would think, especially for unsigned seniors.

WOW...speaking of Bo Maynes at the Classic did anybody see that 152lb match score from that year?!?!
