I hear it all the time that this kids club stuff is just practice for when they hit highschool. Ok I have similar beliefs in that opinion. The major disagreement that I have is that it does matter to these kids that are wrestling kids right now. They are not thinking ( oh man it's ok that I didn't get to go to state this year cause I'm just practicing for my highschool debut ). Let's all get real about this and adjust our statement to maybe some of the parents don't care and kids wrestling is just a means to an end but our kids do care. All the talk about retention in the sport at an older age is a simple fix. MAKE IT FUN FOR THE KIDS. fun at practice, fun at tournaments. How many parents video matches and then go home and analyze those matches and go over them with your kid. Did you ever ask your kid if they wanted to do that or if it was fun doing that. My belief is that if you make it fun for the kid they will love the sport regardless of win loss stats.

My wife tries to talk my 10 year old into playing basketball every year. His response is "I AM A WRESTLER". We do video his matches and seldom watch them unless he wants to. "HE" says that all he wants to do is wrestle in the Metro Classic when he can. So he does have a goal.

Basketball???? Have you tried seeing a couples councilor? cause WOW Sorry dude.

And I always make the comment it only matters in high school. Mainly because if your a seven time kids state champ, once you hit high school they only call you freshman until you prove otherwise. And for me its a way to relax my kid and get him to focus on the BIG picture. And at this point in Jonny's career I have to reel him in about his seriousness we support try not to push and hope for the best but for the most point hes way harder on himself than anyone else is. Just like I have always said every tournament is just practice for State,Tulsa Etc. it helps him move on and removes pressure. And it helps if he gets his hinny whipped.

One tremendous value in the Kid's program is that wrestlers get to wrestle kids that won't go against at the end of their HS seasons because they are in different size classifications. What I mean is that a wrestler from the Kid's program that has been around for enough years has wrestled against the best the state has to offer, whether they will wrestle 321A, 4A, 5A or 6A, not to mention a few pretty salty kids from out of state.

But they don't use Kid's history as seeding criteria at H.S. level. Everything done at the Kids level needs to be re-earned at the H.S. level.

Seeding meetings are highly subjective. Some stick to a policy of not seeding freshman on opening day, some do not. We have all seen freshmen blow up brackets that should have seeded them.
