I honestly don't know who you are, at least not on the forum. I have no idea who you coach for. I don't think I took anything out of context. Re-read your post and see if it does not condone choking kids out and winning at all costs. I have re-read it twice, just to make sure I wasn't jumping the gun earlier. I don't think I did.

You may have read it but i think you misunderstood the point or maybey I didn't convey it properly. I used an MMA choke as an example beacuse you mentioned it in your previous post. I wanted to clear up the misconception that most chokes cut off the airway when in fact that's not the case. Many moves we use in wrestling are widely used in the MMA world to choke (restrict blood flow) opponents. I DO NOT CONDONE choking opponents out and I doubt very few young wrestlers have the ability or strength to do this. You could use Dan Gable and Iowa as an example of imposing your physical will upon opponents. Very rough teams back in the day that used some techniques that were considered bullying opponents. If you have a chance read 'A Season On The mat'. In this book it talks alot about dominating your opponent into submission.
We all know there are moves that are dangerous when applied with force. Some choke,some break bones, some rip mscle, but in the end this is a very physical sport. I'm sure you'll agree that being a very physical wrestler is an advantage not only physically but mentally. Is it winning at all costs! I don't think so. I would consider it an honor if other coaches feared my wrestlers for being aggressive on the mat.
I believe unnessesary Roughness Is Necessary, I preach it in every practice as long as it is in the rules of wrestling.

The rules also states that any move used to punish the other wrestler is also illeagal. With that being said we ain't playing a game of checkers here. Nothing wrong with being aggressive.

Alex, I know what you are referring to. It's the same hold used by the kid that caused Jake Spates from OK to run out and stop a match. I think the kid that uses it is from Clarion but I can't recall. He puts most of the pressure on the head as opposed to the neck. There is a lot of debate in the college ranks as to it's usage. It's essentially a side headlock with a cross body ride and you can crank it pretty tight.

Here is a shot of it. The bottom wrestler has cleared the leg out only leaving the top wrestler with a side headlock which he cranks on the jaw.
