What about the kid that weighs 110.2, gets bumped up to 120, and the combined that bracket with 130? That's a long day for that young person.
I say make the weight or announce the allowance. Either way don't matter as long as its an equal playing field for everyone. I hate when my sons worked hard all week, we as a family postpone dinner until he makes weight, to show up and find the y are giving this or giving that or what's worst is when they say scratch weight and there's that one kid who's running and running and running and then they just let him have a few extra tenths so he can wrestle.
All that will stop if at the end of the day you tell him sorry you didn't make it.
Would that few tenths of make a difference on his matchs? No! But you have to draw the line somwhere and quit giving this or allowing that.
One of the great things about wrestling is that its an equal playing field as long as we enforce the same criteria to everyone.
If you plan on giving weight then announce it up front.
If a kid can't make weight let him pay another entry fee to switch weights.

BLT,
I have an 8&U who weights between 95 and 96 pounds. After talking with his parents We decided he wrestles 110. Yes he does give up a lot of weight but I think its better then burning the kid out by having him watch his weight all season.

the problem with set weight classes & having to make weight is that your wrestler gets less or no matches. if you like sitting in a loud gym all day for one or two matches (or just to get a medal) then making weight is for you. if you like to wrestle then block wrestling is the way to go.

I like the way Rossville does their tournament. Weigh the kids in, group them and let them wrestle. If you post weight classes on your flyer then follow them. 110 means 110 or less not 110 plus a few ounces or a pound.

when i did the track wrestling at rossville i listed weight classes so i could get a idea of apprx wieght so i could make sure that all wrestlers that came had a match. the extreme light & heavys was notified of there situation if there was no one to wrestle. steele you have always supported our tournament. thanks. see you around.

Is there a way to get track wrestling to be set up for block wrestling or are you stuck using the weight classes?

Getting back to the original topic if the tournament list weight classes on the flyer follow them or don't list them. or note that you won't pay attention to the tenths (like Salina did).

Luellen always noted that there was no need to make weight on his flyers as well.

This way there is a level playing field for all.

When I've watched Steven Foster at seeding meetings, he simply "renames" the weight class, so yes you could group them by weight range and make up brackets.
