That was a legal hold? Looked more like a rear naked choke.

It definitely is potentially dangerous and should have been stopped - head looked twisted with 1 arm deeply around the neck.
I hope Jared is OK.

Jared went to the doctor for xrays to make sure everything was okay. He is fine and will see everyone at state this weekend!

"Last I heard he is at home with a very sore neck, he should be fine though."

Thanks Ed!

You know in a situation like this a parent's first instinct is to blame someone. Afterwards, you realize it is just life, sometimes things just happen. In this case we had 2 excellent refs on the mat. In my opinion it should have been stopped sooner, but the refs make a 1000 calls a day and sometimes they might be a second or 2 late on what 'we think' should be called. If we blame the refs for every thing, who would want to do it. Also, one of the refs stopped by the hospital on his way home and wished Jared luck. It was really appreciated. Jared is now fine and complaining about helping around the house today. We are very appreciative of the help and professional of the Silver Lake staff in dealing with the injury. They run an excellent tournament. We also wish Kiefer Hurla the best of luck this weekend. Too bad a close match ends like this.

An excellent ending to a seemingly terrible scenario! (especially the response of the Father)

After watching it several times, I wonder what the motivation was for holding onto the head, rather than spinning behind Jerad to get the reversal............

I am not sure if it was illegal or not, but probably should have been stopped quickly. I have seen a match stopped for much less. I actually seen a match stopped with a body scissor on, because the ref felt the top wrestler was inflicting pain. If this match wasn't inflicting pain i am not sure what is. Great to hear he is doing good,

The refs made a mistake here. They need to own that and improve! That is shocking that it was that clear to see and no whistle. Wow.

I'm really glad you said something about that Chief. I was thinking that but no one else had said it. It really is pretty shocking but I was talking to Brian Rees about it, former assistant coach and ref, and he was shocked at how bad the situation was. This'll probably ruffle some feathers, but I can't believe how blatant the cranking of the head was. That was obviously not an attempt at a pinning combination or reversal.

It's amazing two refs could be far enough out of position to miss that. I can't even figure out what they were looking at. Pretty sad...just glad he's OK.

After having watched it several times and talking with some that were there, I believe that it was an unfortunate event. The referees involved were actually in the correct positions. Had they seen the camera side, they would have seen his head turned at a dangerous angle and been able to stop it much sooner. I have heard that the wrestler involved has used that move several times. Referees at Hays should be informed to watch out for that!
