I am curious if there is only 1 wrestler listed in the sub district weight class does he automatically move on to districts?

The wrestler must weigh-in to move on!

WTF?! What was the point of specifying a weight to begin with? The weight specified at registration for a given tournament is part of the registration! I thought there was a deadline for said registration? Guess not.

I think the idea should be to try to get as many kids to state as possible.
We should try to make sure there are no open spots in a bracket.
If there's one kid at 115 and 5 kids at 110 then why keep one kid home and 3 empty spots at state.

If they earn it, sure. If a kid is entered at 115, then that's were he should make the weight and wrestle. period. Either that, or don't bother asking for that trivial piece of information when entries are worked by the tournament.

Entries should never have been posted. That seeding meeting is going to be chaos with weight changes. We probablly added 2 hours to the seeding meeting.

So We keep 8 kids home that registered at 110 and have 2 open spaces at 115!!!
Just dont seem right to me!
I say a full bracket should be our goal for state brackets!

Toughest District in the State!!! I'm O.K. with people moving weights. It gives coaches the ability to make their team stronger and other people something to talk about later. We will see who is having trouble making weight and see some loaded weight classes empty.

Lets remember this is a forum that children 17 & under read often. With that being said, I know these seeding meetings will bring about a lot of discussion across the state. So, before you post something. Ask yourself: Would I be angry if my child read this or if it directly relates to them? We have the responsibility to protect our youth, but lately it seems we have lost sight of that.

If they can't make the weight they entered at, yes, absolutely they stay home, just like they would at any "lesser tournament". Why bother with the tournament entry guidelines, or even state rules? After all, they're just a suggestion (apparently). Its more important to get as many kids in as possible right?

For a "normal" non-qualifying tournament? I've got no problem with that. The mere idea of allowing this wide a scope of changes to this type of tournament at this stage in the season is complete Bravo Sierra and a slap to the face of all who thought it was going to be on a higher level.

BLT, Coach G,

I've got a proposal then. Let's change the weight classes for State (for example; 12U) to:

64-ish, 68-ish, 72-ish, 76-ish, 80-ish, 84-ish, 88-ish, 92-ish, 96-ish, 100-ish, 105-ish, 110-ish, 115-ish, 120-ish, 130-ish, 140-ish, 150-ish, 165-ish, 190-ish, 215-ish, 240-ish

Sound good? After all, when you carry your thought to its ultimate conclusion, it means very little what weight a kid is entered at. In fact, how bout we get a few old-timers, complete with a southern drawl and just eye-ball each kid when they "weigh-in" (wink wink nod nod) and say somethings like "EEeee looks bout yay big", he goes over thar", and this whipper snapper with his zipper hair looks about that thar big, put him waaayyy oer thur"...etc...

Everyone keeps comparing this to every other tournament. Usually the date to sign up is within the same week as the tournament that following weekend. Everyone will have to hold there weight the same amount of time as they would for other tournaments. Since nothing can be changed after 10:00 am Sunday. Quit being so negative and blowing everything out of proportion.

Thats your perception that my opinion is negative. From my point of view, it is simply fact, sarcastically stated. I don't know about anybody else, but I had mine at a weight (which corresponds to the stated weight on the tournament flyer/State Rules, and signed him up for it and that's where it is and will stay. In his case it isn't a change from what was, so it shouldn't be difficult to maintain, but nevertheless, we are going into it with the thought that we entered at at certain weight and that is where we are and have to be. period.

I've got another proposal...... How about we just allow clubs to weigh their own kids for subs, districts and state?! In fact, that may not be convenient enough. How about we just allow individual parents or other similarly tasked person to weigh themselves at home! Let all be as flexible as we can. The set guidelines/rules are too restrictive anyway.

Newb,

It has really nothing to do with making weight it has more to do with kids moving up or down a weight to either get more competition or an easier path to state. The kids will still have to make the weight before subs if they don't then they scratch..

Looks like a lot of bartering going to be going on at the classic...Yes we want our best kids to go to state...but....moving weights WILL add lots of extra time at the seeding meeting.....good kids at EVERY weight...so why leave a good kid home if you MIGHT work out a deal....STILL don't like the fact they released entries....NOW IT'S LET'S MAKE A DEAL TIME....

I'm not a fan of them releasing entries early either.

But there no "ish" to the weight classes. But there's also something wrong with 7 kids in one sub and one kid in the other.
We need to do everything in our power to get as many kids as can to state.
