Kansas Wrestling Forums General Discussion High School Topeka Seaman - Viking Summer Wrestling League

Who: Wrestlers who will be in grades 8-12 during the 2011-12 school year.

What: An opportunity to compete against other northeast Kansas wrestlers in competitive matches. All matches will be three, 1½ minute periods. The league will be using a Madison bracketing system where athletes will be grouped in pools of five according to weight and ability with no rigid weight classes. Each night the pools will compete in a round robin format tournament with the goal being four matches for each participant each night.

Weigh-ins will be held on the opening night from 4:30 – 5:30 pm to establish weights for league competition. Wrestlers may also weigh in on Wednesday, June 8 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at Seaman High School or via a pre-approved satellite site on June 8th. Satellite weigh in results can be emailed to Mark Stanley at mstanley@haydentower.com or Patrick Kelly at pkelly@usd345.com.

Teams scoring will also be incorporated with five individuals making up a team. Schools may enter multiple teams. Teams may have up to two alternates to fill in for nights when a regular member is absent. When the alternates are not scoring for their team they will wrestle unassigned. Individuals may also choose to be assigned to a team or wrestle unaffiliated. Dual meet team scoring will be used to accumulate team points (6 points for a fall, 5 points for a Technical Fall, 4 points for a Major, and 3 points for a Decision).

When: Thursday evenings in June (6/9, 6/16, 6/23, 6/30) with a 6:00 pm start time.

Where: Competition will be held in the Seaman Middle School Gym. 5620 Northwest Topeka Boulevard, Topeka, KS 66617-1793

Cost: $30.00. A current USA Wrestling card is also required.

We have 45 entries right now. Thursday will be bracketed in a round robin format utilizing Madison style paring and we will endeavor to get everyone the maximum number of matches possible. There is still are plenty of spots available. Walk-ins are welcome. Satellite weigh- in locations have been arranged and onsite weigh-in will run from 4:30-5:30 on Thursday. There will be a weigh in at Seaman Middle School tonight between 6-7pm and tomarrow between 4:30-5:30pm.


Satelites are in Silver Lake, Holton, and Eudora. Let me know if you want to also host.

Walk-ins are welcome. Weigh-ins will run 4:30-5:30 on site. We will bracket and start wrestling at 6pm. Mats are set up and we are ready to go!

Thank you to all that came out tonight! I have just finished compiling the individual and team results. I am going to get them posted in the morning. We had a good mixture of 3, 4, 5, and 6 man round robin brackets tonight. In order to have team results based on a level playing field I weighted the team results by the type of bracket each wrestler competed in. For example the total matches possible for any individual in a 6 man round robin are 5 and the total matches available in a 5 man round robin are 4. Therefore, I weighted the 5 man round robin bracket scores by a factor of 1.25, 4 man round robin brackets were weighted by a factor of 1.66 and 3 man brackets were weighted by a factor of 2.5. I hope this makes since.

We are working on a system for coming up with an All-League team based on winning percentage and coaches input....more fun stuff to follow later.

A great night of wrestling! Laid back but great competition! I encourage all who could't make it to walk-in next week. Some got 5 matches in! Need Jr High guys! Great Job Coach Stanley and other organizers! This event will get bigger and bigger.

Individual and team results for June 9th have been posted to the "Results" tab of the site menu.

All participants for June 16th should check in at the head table when you arrive. If team leaders can email a list of particiants for this week on Wednesday to pkelly@usd345.com it would be a huge help....however all athletes must check in on Thursday at the head table regardless. We will accept walk-ins that show up before 5:30 on Thursday. Entrys will be closed after 5:30 so we can complete the parings.

Holton team wins top honors at the 2011 TOP City Summer Wrestling League

The inaugural season of the TOP City Summer Wrestling League concluded on Thursday night in the Seaman Middle School gymnasium. Team honors were won by a group from Holton High School under the team name “Fired Up.” The following eight individuals were named to the All-League Team; Andrew Rieschick, Lane Lassiter, and Hunter Price from Holton, Clayton Himple from Tonganoxie, Khamin Crow from Silver Lake, Nathan Stanley from Seaman, Kyle Wilson from Wamego, and Tanner Ogden from Royal Valley.

Six individuals went undefeated during the league. Ogden wrestled in nineteen matches during the competition, which was held on four consecutive Thursdays in June.

The TOP City Summer Wrestling League was open to wrestlers entering grades 8-12. Nearly fifty individuals from eight area schools participated. Area wrestlers on college rosters also wrestled in exhibition matches during each night of competition.
The league served as an opportunity for area wrestlers to develop their skills and compete against quality competition in the off-season.

The league also served as preparation for the upcoming Sunflower State Games competition, which will be held at Seaman High School on July 9th. Registration is due by July 5th and can be completed through the websit www.trackwrestling.com.
