HOW YOU CAN HELP!
In order for this fund to be effective we are going to need a statewide effort. If anyone knows of a business or individual that would like to help this cause and can use a tax write-off please forward the information on to those individuals. If every club and or high school team could set a goal and raise $100-$250 for this fund - our collegiate state programs will be much stronger. In Kansas we have over 400 teams/clubs between high schools and club teams. It is one of the KCWF goals for all our athletes to obtain a College or Vocational Technical College Degree. The kids, young men and women wrestling today will be coaches for future generations. This is a forever fund - LONG AFTER WE are GONE. Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
KCWF Committee

Dear Friends of Wrestling:
The time has arrived for the Kansas College Wrestling Fund (KCWF). We have partnered with USA Wrestling-KS, the Kansas Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association, the business community, and our Kansas Wrestling families. Respectfully, we ask your consideration for a donation to our “KCWF Forever Fund.”
Far too many college/university wrestling programs have been lost the last few decades. The recent announcement that perennial NCAA D II powerhouse U. of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) discontinued its wrestling program shocked the entire wrestling community nationwide. Who would have thought that a university whose team had just won its third consecutive National Championship would be dropped? Given this happened to a stellar program recently, we all acknowledge any and all college wrestling programs are now vulnerable.
Every time a program is cut, our student athletes lose their chance at a college wrestling and educational experience/opportunity that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. How do we combat this erosion of college wrestling programs in our nation, and in particular, in our state of Kansas?
We believe that the wrestling community (wrestlers, parents, coaches, referees, fans and other interested parties) needs to step up and financially support our current in-state programs. Let’s build a fund that will give a noticeable and strong level of support to our existing Kansas college programs. By participating in the “KCWF Forever Fund” college wrestling opportunities will be alive and well in our state for decades to come!
The KCWF will be a “Forever Fund.” It will serve the wrestling community for decades to come. For this initiative to become successful we ALL need to support it with our financial contributions, talent, and time. There are many ways to customize your contribution and any assistance provided will be tremendously appreciated. No donation is too small! If you personally cannot contribute, that is understandable. Perhaps you know of someone or a business that will be interested … feel free to pass this letter forward.
In closing, please consider the “KCWF Forever Fund.” And please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions. Thank you very much for your time and consideration for the Kansas College Wrestling Fund!
Sincerely,
Sean McCarthy, Chairman KCWF Forever Fund 913.491.5837 (home) / smokeycabin@hotmail.com

Talked to a gentleman at the Leavenworth Challanger who was running a KWCA and Kansas College Wrestling Fund table. I had just read about the NCWA dual to be wrestled at Wichita State last week (added: also, just read that Wichita State will be attending the NCWA Nationals in January). I asked the gentleman at the table if the wrestling fund supported the wrestling clubs at Wichita State, K State, KU,or other Kansas colleges or universities that did not have school supported/financed wrestling programs. He told me that the Wrestling Fund could only support wrestling at official school programs: both public and private/parochial colleges and universities--NCAA, NAIA, and community college. I was a little disappointed. To me the club wrestlers are the epitome of scholar athletes and worthy of support. These athletes are not supported by athletic scholarships and must pay their own way to continue in the sport. Project ahead a few years--these wrestlers will marry, have kids, these kids will probably start out in kids wrestling, and dad may be a kids coach. This is how you keep a program up and running. Back to the Wichita State wrestling club. Their annual budget is less tan $6,000. Participation in the Nationals is going to be an added cost. How are they supportd? Club fees--don't know. Private donations? Bake sales? Yard sales? ???????? I asked what it would cost to start a wrestling program at a Wichita State. He answered it had been figured several times and it would cost about $300,000 a year. KWCA had talked to the Kansas Board of Regents and Wichita Stae about starting a program and they wanted an endowment of $50 million dollars to endow wrestling, plus two (2), yes I said two (2), new womens sports programs---thank you Title 9. Forget about ever having wrestling at a D1 or anothe D2 college or university in Kansas. A $2,000 or $2,500 donation from the KWCA would surely help the Wichita State club, and the K State and KU clubs---as would direct donations from the posters on this forum!!!!! See the post about Wichita State going to the Nationals for how to donate!!! My small check is in the mail.

Contrarian,
I haven't followed KWCA posts for a little while for this reason. I want to thank you so much for pointing this out and noticing the work they we are putting towards at Wichita State. We are so excited about National Duals, but with that being said you are right who knows where that money is coming from? We are still trying to figure that out, but one thing is for sure, we will be at NCWA National Duals! Thank you for your support! GO SHOX!
Peace, Nick Thomas Wichita State Wrestling Co-Captain

See the post about Wichita State going to the Nationals for how to donate!!! My small check is in the mail. I was involved in the formation of the Kansas College Wrestling Fund and I am currently an active supporter. I urge everyone in the Kansas wrestling community to support the Kansas College Wrestling Fund both financially and thru volunteer efforts to promote it to others in your community. I think this KCWF fund is a great way for the Kansas wrestling community to help insure that there will be college wrestling programs available in the future for our Kansas wrestling youth that will help them pursue their college degrees and allow them to continue their wrestling careers into their college years. We All Need To Support This Effort! It was considered in the planning stages to consider supporting the wrestling clubs at Wichita Stae and K-State (I believe they are the only two current active Kansas college Club teams). The committee considered it but decided to exclusively support the Kansas colleges and universities that have active teams in the divisions of the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA (the junior colleges) intially. The committee could decide to change that position in the future but they decided not to do that now in the initial stages of the fund. If you are committed to this idea, I would suggest you send your thoughts in an e-mail or letter to each member of the current KCWF committee. So at this time you are correct that if you want to currently support the two club teams at Wichita State and Kansas State you will need to do that directly. I commend you for sending the WSU club some financial support.

A recent request was made to the KSHSAA to set up a KCWF information/donation booth at the high school state tournaments. We were denied because of a policy that allows only one vendor with an "exclusive merchandising agreement".
Below is the response:
Mr. McCarthy: Thank you for checking with the KSHSAA in advance. There are two key points for you to know: 1. KSHSAA does not permit vendors or exhibitors at its post season events 2. The KSHSAA has an exclusive merchandise agreement with a contracting company to vend KSHSAA state championship shirts etc. NO other organization may sell or give away items of any type. In accordance with the above, your request to set up booths at any and all KSHSAA state wrestling tournament sites cannot be approved. I guess theres no gray area with this organization, no matter what the cause! I wonder if they'll allow Cokeley for KSHSAA exec director banners and yard signs @ the state tournament venues?

What I have found in life is there is always a gray area...Sean reach out to the "approved" vendor and I bet he will let you use a little of his space for your information.
