President Ruth Simmons recommeded to the Board to SAVE WRESTLING, mens and womens fencing and the women's ski team. She showed amazing leadership going against a committee that had consisted of the Dean of Student Affairs, the athletic director, the football coach etc... that all recommended cutting these sports. She recommended changes that would include some level of self-funding, increasing academic oversite etc...A big difference compared to other programs i.e. UNO etc... that did not have strong leaders to really look at the issues and come to good compromise....Washington, D.C. politics could learn a lot from president Simmons...
