Team Title update....
Just heard Pittsburg actually won the team title, Pittsburg was in the lead at the last update...somehow there was confusion at the end, we stood around for 10 minutes or so........we were all waiting to celebrate (I think this would be our first varsity team title ever) and it was announced Junction City won by 1.5 points....a bummer to come so close.
I heard a JC wrestler was awarded points but actually had met the 5 match rule and when those points were removed, Pittsburg moved back into the lead.
Sour taste for both schools in the end....no blame, just a mistake.

If you look at the brackets, in the heavyweight final for 5th-6th place, both wrestlers had met the 5 match rule, but Junction was awarded 5th. That may have accounted for the mystery points, as the Preferred Software would automatically award those points. Another case where the 5 matches in 1 day rule should be redefined to include a 6th match for placing purposes only.

Yep. Dumbest rule there is. Well, one of the dumbest.

I am going to go with the offensive pin being the dumbest rule there is...jmo.
It is dumb that schools who invite 16 teams for a one day event haven't figured out the solution to avoid what happened. You use the scrambles format. Four pools of four. There are NO BYES!! If a team doesn't bring a wrestler it is an OPEN and scored as a forfiet, with full bonus points. The top wrestler in each pool advances to the championship bracket of four. The next four to a bracket to determine 5th - 8th. Mat space and time provided you can wrestle to sixteenth place and give every kid 5 matches without the risk of ANY kid having a sixth match. More mat time for everyone! Five matches for 3 KSHSAA points is a good deal. You are going to be hard pressed to argue against this format especially in light of the five match limit rule.

Only problem is that Preferred Software doesn't support the 16 man Scramble bracket. TrackWrestling does, and we use it at our JV tournament. I wonder when we will see that Scramble bracket for State? Not holding my breath, but would be the best way to determine a true state champion, I think.
