Wrestling has lost another great friend and I have as well. Wally Hayward passed away yesterday after battling cancer for nearly a year. Wally had been an assistant coach for Piper High School, he was a fixture in children's wrestling in eastern Kansas, and the team leader for Chuck and Cherie Elvin's trips to Senior Nationals for years. There will be a visitation for him on Jan. 25 from 4 to 6 at the Porter Funeral Home at 1835 Minnesota in Kansas City, Ks.

Wally was my high school assistant coach at Piper High School. He was very instrumentatal in making me the man and coach I am today. Wrestling has lost a great mentor and a friend, he will be greatly missed. Love you Wally.

Wally was a friend and will be remembered fondly.
