I am curious as to who the OW was and on what criteria did he win it (ie. pinned his way through, had two state champions in his bracket, etc...)?
I also find it fascinating that the winning team did not have a single champion at any weight class. Does that surprise any one else?
And, that the fourth place team, had FOUR champions, but as a team finished more than 30 points behind the team that won the tourney. Any one else find that interesting?
Thanks for posting all the info. It looks like it was a great tourney.
I was at JC to watch the finals there. Saw some good matches and individuals performances.

Vandeventer, I don't really have an opinion and I am not trying to open a 'hornet's nest'.
But . . . it begs a question such as, "Did Oak Park bring ALL their varsity wrestlers or what?" I do know that REALLY GOOD teams occasionally take their JV wrestlers to compete in varsity tournaments.
NOT AN ACCUSATION! Just a thought/comment. You do know the difference - right?!
I wrestled in the KC area in the early 80's. They were good back then and I know that they have since won several state championships since then. So, yeah. Just curious.
To me, it would be like having a college football playoffs system in which Alabama and LSU get knock out in the first round and then Missouri plays KU for the championship a month later.
What about you? Do you have any thoughts, opinions on this particular tourney?
The scoring spread and individual champion ratio was much DIFFERENT (which is OK and fine with me - HENCE my CURIOSITY) then the tourney I saw tonight in JC. In that one we had a fairly close battle for first place between two Wichita teams. And, I saw a lot of first and second place winners from both teams.
I in NO WAY meant to 'slam' the BIT. I have never been to it. I imagine it is a great tourney and congrats to Prairie View for winning it and winning it by such a large margin.

On (my piece of) paper, I would have thought Teaney would beat Seidel and Price would beat Seaton. In this case, it appears these matches were not wrestled on paper.

Tehee Came home a little cranky after the tournament and was looking for a fight. I don't know if Oak Park was missing a lot of people or not. I know their 106 was at 113 that cost them points. Perkins at 120 wasn't there either, more points. Maybe I heard another kid did not make weight not sure which class. Kit runs a good tournament. It might have been a little down from past competition but that is no fault of the tournament. Just the cycle of things. But basically anytime a tournament is smaller and scored all the way out to 8th, it allows for your average wrestlers that might not score points in a big tournament, like the bobcat ex. to score team points. I tell all my kids that every match matters when you are trying to win a tournament. You may have a kid that isn't going to place, but if he can get a good draw and have an opportunity to win bonus points, he better get it done. Those 4 points might mean the difference between 1st and 4th. Good tournament, ran straight through which is nice. Good job Baldwin!

Vande, good points. Especially the 'cranky' part. Ha.
;-)
Thanks again for the explanations.

Well, obviously Oak Park was not at full strength, they were 4th at Basehor. What is most interesting to me is that Prairie View won the tournament. Wow, great job wrestlers and coaches! Also Holton and Tonganoxie have really good teams. Congrats to the leadership that has directed these team these past years.

Joe tweaked his knee and had been out since Bobcat. He should be back soon. He definitely helps Tongie with him in the line up. He has split with Morgan this year.
