If you have qualified to attend the 2012 State Kids Folkstyle Tournament and are not planning on wrestling, PLEASE contact me immediately so we can get in contact with alternates.
I have already received a few notifications BUT if your name is on the bracket and you are not attending, then I have not been notified. Please give us 24 hours to make any changes to the brackets.
I will try and contact the alternates up until the time weigh-in starts on Friday.

Mr. Grater,
Is this a recent change? I know a few years back that alternates were not allowed at State from Districts, only byes. If it did change, then I think that is great.

This is not a change as we have always tried to contact the 5th place wrestlers from the District, as long as time allows prior to the start of the State Tournament.

Thank you for the reply. I apologize for the Mr. vs Ms. thing. Here was a reply I saw posted back in March '08, thus the confusion.
"They only take 4 from each district. And if any district only has less than 4, then there is the bye. I know it sucks as it affected my son several times 2-3 years ago when there were 2 byes at state."
I know that in '07 I asked this question and got the same response, but the post history doesn't seem to go back that far. We had an eight man bracket at Districts, another District only had two. Two byes followed that bracket to State (either no alternates could go, or they were not invited, or the rules were different at that time).
The bottom line for me is that I think it is great that they will allow alternates to compete to fill up the bracket at State if another District can't fill their four spots.

Lee, not sure if you understood Leanna's original statement, or maybe I don't, but the way it has always been in the past is as stated in your above post. If a district only has 3 then the 4th place kid is a bye. I think what Leanna meant was that if the there were 4 from a district and 1 of them chose not to go on, they would contact the 5th place kid. I don't think this means that if district 1 only has 3 kids that they will take an extra kid from district 2, 3, or 4. That would pose another problem, how do you determine which of the 3 kids from those other districts gets that one lone spot? I could be wrong, but I do believe she means only within each respective district.

District 1 has always stepped up and graciously offered to send more than their four if needed!

Thank you for clarifying. I did misunderstand what Ms Grater posted. My bad, it was a rough day at work. It is a shame that a State bracket can't be full, but I also understand the logistical issues of how to fill it. Again, thanks for clarifying what I misunderstood. Good luck to all wrestlers at State this year.

It was brought to my attention that I made a terrible mistake in my original reply to Ms. Grater, and another in my second reply. When you are on the forums enough, you often tend to look at the name in the blue above their avatar, and not so much at their signature block.
I originally thought I was replying to Lance Geyer (L.Geyer) although I was looking at L.Grater. The second reply didn't make the first one any better as I came to find out today. I made a terrible error in not knowing who I was replying to, not knowing the entire story, just not knowing.
I made a mistake, and now realize how bad of a mistake it was. I apologize to all who took offense to it, to Ms. Grater, the Grater family, and the entire wrestling community.

Lee - I'm not involved at all, but it seems like it was an honest mistake and a sincere apology. We all make mistakes. You are human (you are human, right?).
