MIAA Wrestler of the Week
Derek Koehn, Fort Hays State
Koehn went 3-1 for the week and was the champion of the Newman Invitational at 157 pounds on Sunday. After a first round bye, Koehn won three straight matches to take his respective weight class. He opened with a 7-2 victory over Trent Robb of Neosho County Community College. Next he defeated Cory Dauphin of Central Oklahoma, the #7 ranked wrestler nationally at 157 pounds by a tight 3-2 margin. This avenged a 2-0 loss to Dauphin just two nights earlier in dual action with UCO. Koehn then knocked off the #3 ranked wrestler at 157 pounds in Ouachita Baptist's Bobby Williams by a 2-1 margin to win his class. He is now 17-3 overall on the season. The 157 pound junior is a native of Pittsburg, Kan. where he competed at Pittsburg High School.

I just watched this 5 times trying to find out the moment where instinct kicks in to pull this off. That is awesome.

Not really a "Flying Squirrel" more like a "Leap Frog!" wink wink

Can you do it? No?? Didn't think so Mr. "Jimmy Johnny"... wink wink

Give Koehn his credit. It was arguably just as hard. Coleman had a standing non moving target. Keohn had a sprawling, head blocking target. Plus Coleman had trained to hit his "flying squirrel", Koehn was laying it all out on the line because he wants to win that bad! It was so LEGIT.
