Great news! The Kansas NAIA colleges, Baker, Bethany and Benedictine will be very happy with this news.

Really why to showcase a very old and dated facility or is just an opportunity to get a National Wrestling Event back in KS?

Great insight. Thank you for your well spoken support of our sport. We always need a negative spin as to why good things happen. It keeps us from getting too excited about showcasing wrestling.

The fairly new programs at Baker, Benedictine, and Bethany will surely appreciate the short travel. Baker and Benedictine could probably sleep in their own beds and make the drive each morning. The Topeka businesses that supply the room and board should be told so they can make sure they have enough staff for that weekend and get to show the vistors how good it can be in Topeka.
I am surprised the tournament left Des Moines. I heard good things about the way it was run. I thought that NCAA D II or III was also in Des Moines.

I think it awsome that this event to be held in KS however the facility needs to be different no big deal.

The NAIA was very impressed with the Expocentre, Visit Topeka, and USAW-Kansas!
I went to the NAIA in Des Moines and the tourney was held in a re-furbished building (guessing a 60 year old bldg) at the fairgrounds! The Expo may need some lipstick but she has great bones and works well for wrestling!
Plus there were other aspects of the entire package besides the Expo! The proximity of the Capital Plaza was a huge selling point! And being the only National tourney in town was a bonus also!!
The contract that was signed was a very extensive document! Tons of work and thought went in to this, over several years!! Another item that sold the NAIA was the support that the Expo, Visit Topeka and USAWKS offered!
I am looking forward to another opportunity for Kansas to shine!!

Kansas folks, especially Topeka folks, get your butts in the seats. If you are a coach, bring your team. If you have a friend that likes wrestling but wasn't a wrestler, bring him. If you support Kansas Wrestling....be there!

It would be great if coaches that "schedule one weekend off a month," like I preach in my Bronze clinics would make the journey to Topeka!!

If I am looking at the calendar correct this will be the weekend of sub districts for our kids series. This is a shame as it would be a great opportunity to take kids teams to go watch some college wrestling.
