You have brought up an excellent point on here. I won’t lie, I was a bit upset when the discussion of the Fort Hays and Newman Universities went away. People could take it either way they wanted as good talk or bad. I for one like both programs and coaches. I do however want the best for Kansas Wrestling at the college level , especially at our biggest schools which is Fort hays and Newman. I am a friend with Eric Luedke and respect him a ton cause he does speak his mind and I don’t disagree with him calling anybody out.
In my opinion, I feel that both Universities do not do a great job with promoting themselves, when it comes to the best in Kansas. It is a hard business that takes up tremendous time and countless hours and both Chas and Ryan knew this when taking over that these schools. I’m not trying to say they don’t work hard at it but they could each get better, just like high school coaches can, with promoting these schools.
I would like to see both of them out offering camps or clinics throughout the state maybe just a one, two or 3 day deal. When was the last time they offered something like that? When it comes to a team camp that would be an awesome way to promote their respective program and get an early jump on some of the great talent that is in our state, instead of these high school teams attending camps in other states and then those athletes being heavily recruited by those out of state schools.
I would love to see a Kansas school win a Division 2 national title, or at least be in the hunt year in and year out. I absolutely hate seeing us finish near the bottom of the pack, especially when there are so many Kansas Wrestlers that competed for and won Division 2 All American status for programs in other states. I want us to have National Champs and Academic All Americans that come from Fort Hays and Newman. At this time we have Academic All Americans, but now we need to promote the programs further in order to have wrestlers competing for All American status on the mat, along with team National Titles.
