Is it ethical to present a JV record at a Regional Seeding Meeting as a Varsity Record? Yes, the kid will get a better seed, but is it right? Is there any way to assure Varsity records are the only ones used?

I do not know your situation but in Norton our JV schedule is composed mostly of small school VARSITY tournaments in Nebraska. So when our coach presents a record for a JV kid at a varsity seed meeting the record has been against varsity competition.

That is understandable. I'm saying if a kid has been wrestling JV all year against other JV kids. One or two matches on varsity the rest against JV. What record do you use?

No, it is not. Plus, he'll get clobbered when he wrestles the varsity wrestlers.

Im thinking it would mess up the bracket a 20-5 jv record may still be a 8th seed in a varsity meet...its right up there with not seeding the state meet and the two best wrestlers are on the same side of the bracket....

No it's not OK. Varsity records only.

Hopefully the coach that thought this was ok will see the responses and change this practice in the future. If others are doing it hopefully they will be enlightened as well.

I am pretty sure it happened at our regional as well. Not very ethical at all.

The first seeding criteria should always be: Use your common sense.

Unfortunately that is a rare commodity around a lot of seeding meetings! smile
