What if after districts you could only submit up to 14 wrestler that could earn team points. Kinda even the playing field.

It is still a number game. The top ten wouldn't change much. Young guns and maize probably could choose 14 kids that would be champs.

What if we focused on improving and forgot the team title completely. Not a fair way to do it. And there are a lot of teams that didn't qualify 14. Somewhere around 30 teams out of 162 had 14.

I would be in favor of 30 kids. There are a lot more ages and weights than in High School. Good clubs are going to attract good kids. Don't punish them for being productive.

Team title is really irrelevant.... everyone pretty much agrees I think and that might be why it was announced when no one even cared to listen half way through Sunday session. Not to take away from who ever won it but really who cares... there is and won't be any equal playing field.

Will add that I wish we had 61 one kids in our club let alone 61 make it to state so my comment is not to be mean to YG but really the title is irrelevant to anyone but them and maybe local comp Maize.

I just thought if your going to have a team champ make it more interesting becouse if you already know who the champs going to be whats the point. If the coach has 60 kids two pick from who's to say he picks the right kids. Not every body you thinks going to be a champ wins.

Good points--- Scott Bockover wins by technical fall.
Have a 26 y.o. that wrestled since he was a kid then went on to Labette, can only remember memories! Can certainly state one fact that is Wrestling DID Train him for life!

Now have a 7th grader but do not keep an Excel spreadsheet, videos, pictures. Had to start taking a few pics because didn't really have any. Now we have a few videos but in the long haul it will be the MEMORIES & FRIENDSHIPS of the WRESTLING FAMILIES we make through the JOURNEY.

Maize, KYG, Brawlers, Ark City, Derby, Legacy, Greater gold. Etc. All have TOP QUALITY, wrestlers. Do numbers really matter? Everyone has their run at State. Looking at the plaques on the Trophy, Brawlers, East Kansas, Ark City, Hard Knocks, etc. all had their run, over the past years. But UNTIL THIS YEAR IT WAS NEVER AN ISSUE. WHY? Calling you out Sig.

OK you got me spexy….and a few others that were kind enough to send PM’s.

I honestly didn't intend to take away from YG’s accomplishment. They have a great thing going and it has been rewarded. I’m sure there are several of us out there that would like to have the coaches, kids and support they have.

With that being said, my intent was too simply to say there are several smaller teams with great wrestlers that just can’t touch the numbers they bring to the tournament. Numbers absolutely matter here and I think that is really self explanatory.

I still believe the majority of clubs don’t focus on the team title in its current format, maybe that is better wording than my original post.

I don’t know that I have all the answers but as some mentioned maybe you select a certain amount from each age group prior to the tournament and go from there. Or you just leave it as is and let all those teams Spexy talked about battle it out and some years may be different as clubs go through rebuilding phases. Looks like YG’s had 9 of their top 10 in 12U or above, so maybe as they age the tides change or they just reload…

Oh I do believe this talked about every year also either at the tournament, through out the season or here on the save the world talk forums...

I have an answer to your question. It has always been an issue. It's just that this year you guys are on the other end of it. In years past, everyone complained about The Brawlers having kids from Maize, Goddard, Andale, and the Wichita area. I know because I heard the dad's and coaches from the clubs these kids were from complain about it. Next came Paola/East Kansas. They had kids from all over District 1. They were formed to bring the State Championship to D1, and they did. Again, parents and coaches complained about it. I remember the guys in D2 saying, we ought to put some clubs together and show them what it is like. Well guess what? That is what happened the last couple of years with The Young Guns. The Young Guns have kids from Goddard, Maize, Wichita Northwest, Garden Plain, Bishop Carrol, Clearwater, and the Kansas City area, just to name a few. It's just your turn and people are going to complain. Something you'll have to live with, when your in a club with so many different towns in it. There will be another "Super Club" come along and then they will be the ones everybody complains about. Just part of the cycle.

I disagree with the term SUPERCLUB. How many high school teams are represented on Young Guns? How many wrestlers are on Young Guns by name only and not really practicing with them? Super Club or Super Collaboration. Hey I'm not upset with Young Guns winning state, but to say they developed this talent that's a real LOL.

At least 8 of the Top 25 Point scorers for Young Guns this year at state, wrestled for another club in the last year.

Much of the talent on the Young Guns state roster was developed in that room. I have followed many of those kids for years and the progress they have made by being in that room is remarkable. They may have kids that scored well at state that were on other teams last year but I doubt any of them were recruited most just chose to go there because they would have good quality practice partners. Steel sharpens Steel.

Correction, of the 61 kids that qualified for state only 5 of them wrestled for another team last year and 3 of those were former Goddard Club kids.

I have a count of at least 16 that came from other clubs. And I am not counting any former Goddard Kids.

Bunch of sore losers and cry babies!
My kid didn't make it to state but if I lived close enough to Goddard he would have. There is a reason why people are willing to drive from Maize and Wichita. When or 'if' you ever win state I will make sure to nitpick every single thing about your club. Bunch of Nancy cry babies. I don't like to use the word loser but you people are losers for making up excuses on why someone did a better job coaching then you did. I hope they win again next year just to make all you girls cry! Spoiled brats!

The statement was in the last year.

With the exception of the 5 I mentioned every wrestler that made it to state has been with KYG for at least 2 years or more.
