Parents sit in the stands. Let the officials officiate the match. Let the table workers run the tables. Let the coaches coach the kids. Or sign up to be a coach if you want to coach your child!

No, dont sign up to coach. Your child does not want you matside. If your child needs you matside, your child is not ready to wrestle. Stay in the stands where you belong.

I agree with Beeson PLEASE don't come down mat side to yell moves that don't exists. It is hard enough to make wrestlers hear there coaches. Plus please stay in the stands to video tape your wrestlers. I am pretty sure that was a rule a few years ago. Just because you are not using an actual camera but using your phone, tablet or I pad does not mean you can be down there with it. OK I will get off of my soap box.

Clubs can do a better job communicating this to their parents - especially Novice when so much is already new. But to retrain Open families, Tournaments should communicate and enforce better too. No one wants to be the hall monitor, so empower all volunteers around tables to tell folks with a smile - families return to your seats, only coaches matside and please stay down.

From the parent perspective, I've been guilty staying matside after walking my little kids to the mat. Even though I was quiet and kept out of the way, my kids could see me not following instructions, as I want them to do. Getting away with something is not the message I want them to get.

Always going to be folks who don't listen or care. But if we set the expectation, clubs remind families to be respectful and they represent their club, it's a start.

I disagree I say the more the merrier, the only thing that will make it better is if Gama,gram-pa, aunts and uncles could make it more often to these fine events. These years are precious no one should miss this.....

you mean the families of 10 to 12 people matside yelling at the kid on bottom to run a half doesn't help?!? Anyone frustrated with the crowd control at a D2 tournament needs to come to a D1 tournament, you'll never complain again!

Lee's Summit did an exceptional job at their Jan., 10, 2015 event of keeping everyone without a coaches wristband (only obtainable by presenting a USA Wrestling Membership ID, Coaches Card and Photo ID at the gate) away from the mats.
It was communicated to all clubs 3 days prior that this would be strictly enforced and 99% of folks abided by the rule.
There will always be the handful of folks who believe that rules do not apply to them, and those folks were certainly in attendance at this event as well. One father, who can no longer proudly wear the bright yellow of a certain KS club affiliation, decided to make a complete ass (no truer description) of himself by creating a huge scene in front of everyone at mat 9.
However, there were far more parents, grandparents, fans who complimented the enforcers and were appreciative of being able to sit on a bleacher and view all of action from their paid for seat.
Table workers, officials, and coaches were much more easily able to perform their duties without the constant distraction, interference and harrassment from people who not only have no business being matside, but would not be able to do same thing in any other sport.
This truly needs to be the norm and not the exception in the sport of kids wrestling.
