Good reminder!
In Salina a wrestler threw a headlock on my boy. His maniac coach was jumping up and down screaming, "RIP HIS HEAD OFF!" My son heard it. "Some folks are clowns..." I told my boy. I didn't dare tell mom 'bout this one. She's heard enough mean-spirited (borderline sick) crap come out of ppl's mouths while our boy was on the mat.
Earlier in the day we heard a woman screaming, "MAKE HIM CRY!" as her 6yo was wrestling a tough match. This was only moments after seeing the Salina Police interviewing 2 women who had apparently been being disorderly with one another after a match.
This past baseball season someone's grampa showed up to one of our games wearing face-paint that matched the team colors (actually decorated like a clown, not just acting like one;-). He sat there and heckled our 11U baseball team until his team was far enough behind it didn't matter anymore.
There are plenty of good people who follow the golden rule in youth sports, but instances like these are the ones that stick out in my memory.
