College Opportunities have doubled in Kansas in 11 years


College opportunities for student/athlete wrestlers has doubled in Kansas in the last 11 years. Demand is high in the state - as is evident of the addition of six - 4 year college programs and the addition of 2 more community college programs in recent years. I am not sure if the Kansas Wrestling Community is bucking national trends - but Kansas and its colleges and universities has to be one of the front runners for adding the most wrestling programs and educational opportunities over the last decade.

When did Kansas Wesleyan add wrestling? What are the odds of ever gaining a D1 program in this state.......I know this is the youth thread, but I am just following suit.

Kansas Wesleyan - is searching now for their first coach. The announcement is recent - in the last month or two. The addition of the program has been in the works for a while. I do not know what the odds for a D-I program in Kansas are - but many people have spent thousands of hours trying to convince various schools and administrators that there is a demand - at that level to provide student/athlete opportunities. Many Kansas wrestling supporters are more than hopeful for a supportive administration at one of the schools in the coming years.

Thanks for the information! As I am fairly new to Kansas, it is great to see growth in my new "home." It would be great to see the Wildcats, Jayhawks, or Shockers get on the mats! The Kansas college wrestling fund seems to be an effective means to support our sport.

It is the mission of the Kansas College Wrestling Fund to provide financial support for Kansas colleges and universities with active college wrestling programs. This financial support to Kansas colleges and universities will help provide wrestling, academic and eventual career opportunities for student athlete wrestlers in the State of Kansas.
Individual and corporate donor annual gifting levels:
Platinum Level-$5,000 and above
Gold Level-$2,000 to $5,000
Silver Level-$500-$1,999
Bronze Level-$1-$499
