First of all great job by Winfield and all of your volunteers. With the numbers I thought we would be there till 9:30. Everyone from Winfield from the announcer to the the concessions did great. I was impressed with the security. You guys stuck to your guns the whole day even till the end.

The only problem was if we skip subs we need a bigger venue. It was crowded the whole day. The only gripe I heard all day was it was way to crowded. As a district we need to get a bigger facility.

Agreed. A bigger venue, is needed. With some of the biggest clubs in the state, we could make this happen, and run all divisions at once. Getting us out and home at a decent time.

Winfield, did a great job. So did Bill Littles, officiating crew. They kept it moving.

But having the bracket sizes we had, more mats, at a bigger venue is a must! Along with parking and seating.

Something for D2 to address next year.

Good luck to ALL our kids at state next weekend.

Agreed. Great job Winfield I wasn't a fan of the half mats but it did run very smooth just too crowded. Good luck next weekend D2!

If you would have had sub district tournaments your district tournament wouldn't have been as big.

It might be worth looking at Hartman or Kansas Star as a venue for Dist 2 if space is an issue. Was curious what the reaction was to the use of the casino for the Maize tournament.

It was narrowly voted down to use the casino for Districts.

I believe that moving this tournament to either the Casino or Hartman would be the best decision over all from a facility standpoint. A facility like those could handle easily our current needs and also able to handle the addition of 6&Under if they would ever be added to the regular State Series.

Casino seats 3,000
Hartman 5,000
Expo 7,450

Casino was OK for regular tournament, parking is good. Concessions left a lot to be desired.

My biggest problem with the Casino is the readily availability of mixed drinks. Mark my words, the Casino will be trouble.

Chad I can respect that. I can see where that might be issues we really don't want to have to seal with.. Does anyone know what the facility charge is for Hartman?

For smaller clubs having all the mats on one floor is the best (i.e. Hartman or Casino)concept. I liked the proposal Maize Club pitched. Hats of to WWC they ran a good event as expected.

Some brackets were large but still quite a few had 6-8 kids. So the fear factor of us not having subs never really came to fruition. Question is will the other districts follow suit? TBD of course. I would think District 4 would follow suite based on the amount of travel. Having off the weekend for subs was nice. And many of us still went up to Lindsborg for the Middle School State Tourney so it wasn't a full weekend off but having one day was nice. Honestly was good to rest the younger kids as well.

Cheers,

I don't think Maize had that problem at either of the tourneys they hosted there the last two years, but maybe I just didn't hear about it..........

Actually, it might have been better based on the number of people busted trying to sneak liquor bottles into the casino arena, from home. One could assume that those people would have been sneaking the liquor into any other tournament location without fear of it being confiscated. In addition, if you feel the need to bring liquor from home you're probably too tight or can't afford to buy drinks at the casino.

I agree, we don't need drunk coaches on the floor. But I'm not opposed to some tipsy moms being down there with us.....
wink

Seriously, did Maize have any problems at the casino? I don't think so, at least not any more problems than the folks that head to the parking lot for a few drinks between matches.....

I don't condone it, but I just don't think the casino is any more problem creating than a tourney at a high school.....or Hartman.....

You said it right there. Its every week so would the venue change the people. Those who will drink are already doing it.
