Dear Barry:
You are mistaken. By rule, the participant was “officially ejected” by the disqualification.
Rob Brewster, the Tournament Director, was unaware of the incident. At the time of this incident, Rob was involved in the matter regarding the Oklahoma coach. According to Rob, had he known of the incident, the wrestler would have been ejected, as per the rules.
As you may be aware, there is no timeframe listed in the Kids Constitution, or the Rules which provide a timeframe for submittal of the Ejection Form. However, for obvious reasons, timeliness in submittal of the Ejection Form is essential.
If the head referee failed to follow the rules as set forth in the National Federation of State High School Associations, Rule 7-4-3, page 28, and Rule 8-1-6, page 34, is it not the duty of any member of the executive council, to include a member of the executive council who is affiliated with the club the disqualified participant wrestles with, to take appropriate action?
Rule 7-4-3 states: “Flagrant misconduct involves physical or nonphysical acts considered by the referee to be serious enough to disqualify a contestant from the match and any additional wrestling in the multiple school event. It would include, but is not limited to striking, butting, elbowing, kicking an opponent, or using any tobacco products. If, in the opinion of the referee, a wrestler bites an opponent this will be deemed as intentional biting and will be called as flagrant misconduct.”
Rule 8-1-6 states: “Flagrant misconduct results in disqualification of the individual, immediate removal from the premises and the deduction of two team points on the first offense. A student may be removed from the premises only if there is authorized school personnel present to supervise said student. If no supervision is available, the student shall be confined to the bench area. Any contestant disqualified in tournament competition is not entitled to any points earned in the tournament. All vacancies created in the tournament paring shall be scored as forfeits. In dual-meet competition, any team points earned shall be negated.
Flagrant misconduct will disqualify any individual from the remainder of a multiple school event or a tournament. (See Penalty Chart)”
