Will either tournament have openings for a team or 2 next season?

There were 36 teams at the Bobcat but the really scary fact that no one is talking about, there were only three teams with a full roster of 14 guys...

Just wondering why that is scary?? 321a kids need a shot at the bigger schools that get a lot of recognition. Just look at what Riley Tubbs of Wabaunsee did at the bobcat this weekend.

All you have to do is call. We have a blend of schools from all classifications and they do well, always have. Rossville was great this year and took fourth with a couple of champs too. Nobody is keeping anyone out of Basehor and no one is disrespecting 321A. Most of us that are working the tourney came from just those schools. Good luck to them all. I'm not speaking for Joe, because our limitation is crowd space after while when you get kids from 36 towns and schools, but we sure never talk about classification as a limiter.

Will never mentioned 321a he just mentioned how many had a full roster. I think a majority of the teams were larger classifications. It's becoming an issue across the board of teams in general not fielding full teams. Maybe wrestling needs to look at allowing more than one entrant when you get to regionals and stuff (heck you can qualify more than one guy to the state meet in track for an event, why not wrestling for a weight?)

I see. I wasn't trying to say there was any disrespect. Rossville did have an awesome showing. I'm just trying to say its hard for teams like Wabaunsee to get in to some of these premier tourneys. We do have a couple of elite wrestlers that can hang with the best in the state but we only have a team of 6 or 7 kids.

Rossville took 8 wrestlers, 7 placed and my #5 seed won it. Pretty good weekend of wrestling for the Dawgs.

What I was referring to is the state of the sport. 5A and 6A schools, especially, should be able to fill their spots. Kids should want to be on varsity. Rooms that usually have 40 to 50 wrestlers have 20-25. I am afraid for the future of the sport.

So many kids and parents feel that they have to be focused on 1 or 2 sports only. I know we lost several kids this year that would have made the team better so they could "focus" on their other sport. i would bet that a large majority of the Bobcat/Newton winners aren't multiple sport athletes. I sure there are some but the point is they have chosen to wrestle year around and I am sure there are coaches at those schools that would love to have them on their team. No disrespect to those kids, but that I what happens in reverse, which has limited number in lots of different rooms.

I understand what your saying now Will. That is kinda scary situation. Hopefully our team at Wabaunsee is on the rise. Our kids fed program seems to grow in numbers, talent, and work ethic each year an hopefully it keeps going. 5 years ago we didn't even have a kids fed program now we get 30 to 40 kids at practice
